Default MARINE CORPS COMBAT MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAMS

For those wanting to know how the pro's do it, and hone your skills, here's the USMC Combat Marksmanship Program for rifle and pistol. It includes courses of fire in the Appendices:

MARINE CORPS ORDER 3574.2K (2007)

http://community.marines.mil/news/pu...%203574.2K.pdf

Note that most of the courses of fire are either timed and/or round limited. Which means you shouldn't run these by yourself. Have somebody there to time and score, and critique your performance. You'll need some elbow room, and plenty of ammo.

Well it was working. Apparently they took the page down. This one works as of this post: http://community.marines.mil/news/pu...%203574.2K.pdf .

Suggest you save it to disk as soon as it loads. There were some other MCO's that returned the same 404 not found so it may be a server problem.

An interesting article in MarineTimes - Point Blank Self Defense. The Corps (and I suspect the Army also) is incorporating some new training as a result of "Insider Attacks" in Afganistan. Couldn't find anything specific about it, but here's the article:

http://militarytimes.com/blogs/battl...12/12/18/8049/ .

This is something that would be useful to practice for home and personal defense also. SAP (Speed, Accuracy, Power) in surprise situations. Making yourself a small target, immediate cover options in your house or other locations, situational awareness, etc., etc. These are the kind of things that can save your life at 3am.

I think many newbies to personal/home defense think that a confrontation is/would be a standup fight, Wyatt Earp style. Big mistake.

I suspect that the new training mentioned in the Times article will be incorporated in MCRP 3-01B (previously linked), which is pretty good as it is. Like anything else tho, just reading the manual isn't enough. Regular practice is also needed. I've been pretty lax on that part of it myself since I retired.
