I have a 1911 9mm that I'd really like to mount a red dot scope on. It will only be used as a range gun and my aging eyes really like the red dot on my Buckmark 22LR pistol.
I have seen several on Brownell's and Midway that would require drilling/gunsmith work. I remember seeing a mount that attaches behind one of the grips but cannot remember where I saw it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

There's a Fastfire mount that slips into the rear sight dovetail of many 1911s: < http://www.brownells.com/optics-moun...prod41850.aspx >

The only red dot that I know of that can handle the constant abuse of riding on the slide is made by c-more.
