This may be in the wrong section but...
My dad had a question fer me regardin the range of the arc of his 7.62x54. When does the arc cross back over the original line of travel? He is usin 173 gr silver bear ammo. Thanks

depends on where you zero it at. Every zero actually has two zeros.
for instance, .223 zeroed at 25m is also zeroed for approx 300m due to the arc. Don't know off the top of my head what the trajectory for that bullet/ammo is

I made some assumptions:
1. Sight height is 1.5 inches (scoped) 2. Ballistic Coefficient of .450 3. Muzzle Velocity of 2550 fps 4. Rifle sighted in at 100 yards. Making the above assumptions, the bullet arc would cross 0 at 50 and 100 yards or would cross the original height of the barrel at about 150 yards. Attached is a picture of the bullet trajectory out to 250 yards If you want a better answer, I will need better information. Last edited by rcairflr; 11-30-2012 at 05:33 AM.. |

Thank you rcailfr. He is using iron sights, like me hates scopes. I know he can hit a coyote at 300 yrds. I'll ask more when I talk to him agian.
10pm Talked to my dad and he sighted it in at 200 yrds. Like I said he is using iron sights along with the silver bear 173 gr bullet. Thank you again.
