Default The heart is the most important muscle -

I have this little fuzz-ball, an American Eskimo, named Korban (Divine Gift).
This breed ranks at the TOP as a watch dog, and at the BOTTOM as a guard dog. I joke around that if someone would attack me, he would watch them really closely while they did it. Korban is a house dog, day and night except when he is out with me.

The neighbors dog keeps coming into our yard, probably attracted by the deer, squirrels and turkeys that are abundant here. I chase him off repeatedly, but he just doesn't seem to get it.

Three days ago, we came home from town and I let Judy out at the door, then drove over across the creek to the car port and parked the car. As I got out, I saw this dog at the near end of the footbridge. I started yelling at it to "Get home!".
I did not notice that Judy had let Korban out.
He heard me yelling, and saw the intruder.
His ears touched above his head and he gave out a long low growl as he ROCKETED across the bridge toward this dog.
He slammed into him with his chest, knocking him down. The dog got up and started running across the bridge toward home. Korban pursued him, caught him in the middle of the bridge and slammed him again with his chest, knocking the dog off into the creek. Then Korban leaped off the bridge, lit on the dog's back and continued to RAVE at him as the poor thing continued to try his best to run home. They continued this way until the dog crossed the second creek ford in the drive way, at which time Korban recalled to the house and the dog kept going down the drive toward home.

Korban is limping a little bit from a strained muscle, but he is unhurt otherwise.

The dog has not been back.

The heart - the will - means more than muscle or means.

I have seen little thin guys who, pushed too far, have beat the crud out of a much larger bullying opponent.

I no longer joke about Korban being just a watch dog.
He is a guard dog in every sense of the word.

Nice story! Don't let Corbin out of the house this winter or you'll loose him all that TN snow!

Dogs protect their property and owners. I can't go out the back door without my dogs. They won't even let birds in our yard.

Thank you, guys!

There is a leash law in this county, but no one pays much attention to it.

I think I related here how he came to live with us -

But in case I didn't -

Judy bred Dobermans for many years, improving the health and intelligence of them in her line. She reached the point where she could not handle another litter, so stopped. About three years five years ago, our last Dobe went ahead where we will join him later, and we had an empty house for several months.
I told Judy that I could not STAND to live the rest of my life without a dog, so she started checking to find one of her old line; they exist all over the world, doing police, search and rescue, show, and even guide dogs for the vision impaired, so they were not hard to find. But the CHEAPEST puppy in her line she could find was a pet quality for $3,000. Being the woman she is, she started saving money for one.
I told her "No way can we afford to do that! If God intends for me to have another dog, he can cause one to just come walking up our driveway!"

The next morning, I stepped out the front door to greet the day just before dawn, as I always do, and there sat this little white dog on the top step.
We have lived here for 30 years, and there has NEVER been a stray dog come in here like this. I said "Well, what are you doing here, boy?"
He looked up at me and lifted his paw to shake.
The LAST thing Judy wanted was a long haired dog, so she worked VERY hard to find his owner, ads in the paper, notices on bulletin boards, etc.
Nothing.
We took him to the vet, and he checked out to be in perfect health.
Three years old.
Neutered male.
NO parasites; not even a tick or a flea, and this was Summer in Tennessee!
Weight - perfect.
The vet said he was a purebred American Eskimo, and very high quality, so SURELY his owner had him chipped - she wanded him and no - nothing.
He acted like he did not know what a leash was, but leash broke to heel in just a few minutes.
Trained to sit, stay, down and come in RECORD time.

And thus the name; Korban. Hebrew for Divine Gift.

Which he is.

In the second picture, you can see the groundhogs eating out of one of the food dishes.
I told him to leave them alone, and he does.
Same with deer, turkeys, and all the wild critters here.

I've raised American Eskimoes for years, your right cuddly fuzz balls, till you menace the family, then hang on to your a--, cause they won't quit till the threat is gone. My first male Eskie Sasha, ( 50 lbs maybe ), tore up a large mixbreed that came after the kids one day, neighbor came running over to help but it was already over, big dog 0, med dog 1. They are also super affectionet.

I sure love this one!
He is happiest when he is working at something.

In my morning workout routine, when I do sit-ups he RUNS over and stands across my feet to hold them down for me. There is another one that he races over so I can brace my hand under his chest while I do it. And when I do push-ups, he runs over to his bed, puts his head down on it and holds his butt up in the air and just stares at me for approval for doing his version of a push-up.
Favorite treat is chicken jerkey from Sam's club.

Thanks for sharing the story and pics.

For those that love dogs, this is a keeper.

For those that don't, you are missing out on the purest example of unconditional love that the good Lord gave us.

Remember...... it's not the size of the dog in the fight that counts, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
