WOW...a neat idea that appears to have become a reality. To expand on this idea a bit, a few years back a local agricultural paper had an article in it about a box lock gun with four barrels. The gun in this article said that it was made in Ferlach, Austria by a small arms builder and could be had with either all the barrels in the same caliber/gauge or with each barrel a different caliber/gauge, including rimfire cartridges.

Interesting, but far from a new idea. Friend of mine had a 20 ga 3 barrel
percussion shotgun 50 years ago--and it was an OLD gun then.

The germans have been making "combination" guns for well over 100
years, with many combinations of caliber and number of barrels.

I've always thought the "Vierling" configuration--4 barrels--had some merit.
2 shotgun barrels, 1 centerfire rifle and 1 rimfire (22) barrel.

I'd rather have ejectors, but looks to be a rugged shotgun.

a local pawn shop had a german drilling with 3 16ga barrels 2 on top one on bottom. He shot me $1600 to buy it. I should have bought it.

I like it, but like my coach gun, I wish it ejected the empties, pretty annoying unless it's a skeet or clays dedicated gun.

but I'd gladly own one!

barrel heavy would be an understatement. I'll take a semi-auto any time before that thing.

Very OLD shotgun. Not a practical hunting firearm anyway. The Drilling had two shotgun barrel in the usual S&S configuration with the third rifle barrel under the other two there are a few made the other way as well. This had the advantage of only needing one gun in field for both birds and deer/ meat..

i always thought something like a 30-30 and a 20g or 12g and 308 might be a nice combo gun.

most of the combo guns i see are some from or 22 rimfire and some shotgun.. usually small.. to be practical, and perhaps legal in some areas.. a centerfire and something 20g+ would be nice..

Hollenbeck Gun Co. 1901-1905
Three Barrel Gun Co. 1905-1908
Royal Gun Co. 1909-1910
All three were the same company, there were several other 3 barrel gun makers involved about the same time. Multi Barrel guns ( other than a double ) never really caught on in the states. They had a purpose in Europe with overlapping hunting seasons but they have always been an oddity in North America. Other than just having something different I can't see much use for a three barrel shotgun. Now a over under rifle /shotgun combo such as the Stevens'Savage, with a small caliber rifle on top and a 20 gauge on the bottom always seemed like a neat ideal, if you liked single barrel shotguns. Just my way of thinking.

About time a company had the ambition to do something a bit different; first the Rhino pistol and now this..... Hats off to Chiappa. I look forward to seeing one first hand.

One of the problems with a combo gun is that for years many of the States didn't allow one to be in possesion of a rifle (or handgun) while deer hunting in a shotgun only State.
I've owned a Savage 24 for many years, but I couldn't use it to deer hunt back in the day because of this.
So interest was low because the perceived advantage wasn't there.

did they not allow a bbl plug?

i've seen circuit judges that had a 2-cyl plug for when you bird hunt with them and are limited to 3 shells..e tc.... and it's a 'rifle' too..

Intertesting, but it's a Chiappa. I had one of their .22 pistols and it was a very unreliable gun. I'd have to try it out first before I'd trust it.

No, in fact the Indiana regs at the time specifically forbad 'combo' guns.

We still don't know what this gun will be selling for, but I don't think it will be cheap. A good double barreled shotgun with screw in chokes will do the same thing. Load one barrel with bird, or squirrel shot, and the other with slugs, or 00 buck for deer. With ejectors, and a couple of extra shells in the off hand, it is real quick to reload! 4 shots in a hurry!
