Never seen one myself, so I did some searching. Interesting little gun, not sure how it would be very useful unless it was the first gun that I could happen to reach. They can be had for well under $300 and IMO are more of a novelty.
What were they asking for it at the gunshow?

I had to look this up. It's basically a revolver with 2 drop in cylinders, one for 22, one for 380. Online auctions have them for about $229. A unique gun.

about 300$.. so I guess it was pretty much priced 'in line' considering if you wanted one from a gun auction.. you'd have to pay shipping and xfer fee to get it local.

I have one of these too. I bought it a long time ago and do not remember the price. As a piece of mechanical ingenuity, it is unique. As a weapon...well, as woolleyworm says, they are a novelty.
I am surprised they ever made it into production. Whoever provided the financial backing either invented the thing or knew next to nothing about pistols. The Lorcin type pistols were easier and cheaper to make, and if Lorcin had taken some care in making them, more viable as weapons. |

What the COP 357 had going for it - in theory - was being a 357 Magnum, which put it miles ahead of the 380 ACP firepower offered by the Pocket Pal or a Lorcin (or light years ahead of the 22 version of either). Frankly, after reading about it, I would never have fired it with full-house 357 loads. But then, I've never fired my Pocket Pal either.

the cop357 looks pretty beefy.. i don't think i'd be afraid of 357 in it at all.. thing weighs a ton. I call it a 5 shot, as after it's empty, you can throw it..

it's not smooth for sure.. it has a 'benchover' point aht I guess cocks and indexes it, then past that it is just tripping the firing mechanism

I own a pocket pal. never will shoot it. Cost me only 290 delivered with $10 ffl fee. I have a large collection. Including derringers and UNUSUAL guns. There are 2 versions. The Gen 1 had the area in front of the cylinder closed off and later Gen 2 had the area open and a better finish. The trigger pull is long and heavy but it is the only safety. You put the 22LR or 380 cylinder in it. The trigger also activates a cam which moved the cylinder and then lets both firing pins come out at once (22 & 380). Doesnt make any difference because they are indexed differently oin the cylinder. The chanels on the cylinder only let them go in one way and stop after all rounds are shot. Very well made and stout. Finish is rough but fine for that type of pocket pistol. Very flat and heavy.
Kinda like an old Mossberg Brownie on the back end and like a Street Sweeper Shotgun in the front end (Indexing channels, but no spring to wind it up. WEIRD BUT NEAT. The 2 on GB now 12/23 are the first models which had end of cylinder is enclosed. Mine is like this picture, notice gap. : ![]() Nothing at all like a COP derringer.. I carry one all the time. Love my COP. They are rather pricy now days: Last edited by rogertc1; 12-23-2012 at 06:01 AM.. |

Nice to see I am not the only one with a rather extensive collection that includes unusual guns.
I have the entire Cobra line up of pepper box guns too. Got about every derringer made. Stinger Pengun, Downsizer, Semmerling to name a few. Just got in my early bird NAA Sidewinder and a Boberg which had to make a trip back to MN. Darn I love guns. At a collection stage in my life. I don't shoot much anymore.
