Default AK range report

I ran into a deal on this a while ago. Never owned or shot one before. Being a former AR, HK, M1 carbine owner/shooter (many years past) this was quite a change for me.

I talked to a guy on another board and he told me about his experience changing the OEM rear leaf sight to a Kreb's peep sight. Still shooting Wolf ammo and swapping the sight, my accuracy noticeably improved. Still getting used to it and need more range time.

What range were you shooting at? Even at 50yrds, that a respectable group for the average AK.

Good enough for gov't work....I've found Kalashnikovs respond well to handloaded ammo with good powder/bullets.I lucked into 3k primed Win brass years ago-cheap...best group yet was 1.7" at 100yds using a locked in rest-123gr SP,VVpowder(1680-2.0")...pretty good for a barrel with excess of 10k rds through it.

It's a Chinese pre ban, circa 1980's. I don't think I've ever had a weapon that is as easy to breakdown for cleaning. Amazing design.

people bash on the AK all the time but they're pretty accurate; no sniper rifle but certainly effective at 'combat rifle' ranges, say up to 500m give or take.

plus if ya miss, well, you've got 29 more rounds to try...

nice folder and bayonet, that thing looks good. I've only ever used Wolf and brown bear, brown bear blew up my newer one, pissed me off. Never had any problem with Wolf ammo and it's plenty accurate enough and feeds excellent.
