I like your choices wv hillbilly. It's easy to see where some of us get our musical tastes from, be it the area of the country we're from or whether you were raised in the country or city or the decade you were born in. I was born in the early 60's in Kansas City and spent most of my youth in the city in a neighborhood that was racially balanced. Because KC wasn't a very large city and the times were changing rapidly, I had family that lived in the country and the city. I had friends that listened to early rock, Elvis and such, Motown from my black friends that changed to soul and funk in the 70's, jazz and blues was also very big in KC. My love of classical goes back to elementary school when we would go see the KC Philharmonic as a class. Country influence was from my family that lived in the country. My love of bluegrass comes from spending summers at my great-grandparents farm in the ozarks near Branson, Mo and going to Silver Dollar City. The barber that we went to was the nephew of Glen Miller and always had big band music playing in his shop. My older brother listened to the Beatles and then The Stones and hard rock. As far as the indian and african drum music, after I got out of the Navy I became an electrician here in L.A. and eventually spent time with a company doing temporary electrical for movie shoots and special events (ie The Oscars, The Superbowl, PGA tournaments and street fairs and such, nothing was too big or too small) which took me to a festival in south L.A. at The Watts Towers called Day of The Drum and has drummers from world class to locals that bring their bongos and just jam. This is why my musical interests are so varied and if you looked at my ipod you would see over 15,000 songs covering almost every genre. But you won't find any Polka or Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I like most of the older country by Hank Jr, Waylon, and Johnny Cash. When wife and I are in her vette we both go back to our younger days and crank up Motley Crue, ZZ Top, and Van Halen. Theme song for her vette is "WILD SIDE"

Highboy, interesting you bring up Jerry Reed and that song. it brought back a lot of memories. my CB handle was Bandit 20 years ago. I even had a TA scoop in the hood of my old 76 Datsun pickup. ohh, that poor truck.
I was raised on Smokie and the Bandit, Dukes of Hazard, and Cannonball Run. Dad should have thrown out that TV

there are MANY days I run all 4 stalls and the boss has trouble keeping up with getting me parts or customer approval.
you could do your job faster if you replaced the tennis balls with wheels or hooked up your scooter batteries in series.

Anybody heard the song "My Maria?" If so, go to this link and listen to the parody of it.

I never get sick of hearing Lee Greenwood sing God Bless the USA.
There is a lot of music I like but none that I "have to" listen to. There is a young local group that consists of 4 sisters that play some very interesting music. My youngest daughter is good friends with them. She is even in one of their videos for a few seconds. (top hat commercial, walks through door near the end) I'm not hooked yet but they do have a lot of talent. What do you think of their "different" music? http://shelmusic.com/
