Default It's a good thing I bought my new laptop yesterday

Yesterday I bought a new laptop. I am glad I did because my grandson came over and visited a gaming sight last night and now I have a virus on my desktop PC. You know, the FBI one. The one that prompts you to pay with a credit card so they can fix it. My PC is completely dead and if I ever get my hands on a hacker I am going to break his fingers and his computer. So I am typing on this laptop and it's alright. I am starting a mens Bible study in January and this laptop will enable me to use my notes quickly and I can refer to Bible scripture fast. Also, since I will be in the Bible study class I can pray for the hacker that got me. I pray that Jesus finds him before I do.

I am glad I have a fiend that is a computer tech so now my question to all is this. How many holes should my grandson dig outside for infecting my computer? This is not the first time that he has crashed our computers and he is a genius and knows exactly what he is doing. He is in for a rude awakening when he comes back over because I am going to have a bill for him to work off. He has never had a blister on his hand but I will take care of that.

Thoughts?

" How many holes should my grandson dig outside for infecting my computer?"

How many do you need? I'd say probably twice that.

my boys know what the wrath of Dad is like. t2s saw a small tiny taste of it yesterday. God help them if they do something bad and they know it.

That's a tough one Jim. Depending on the size, 5 should teach him a lesson.

I'd say deep enough to bury all of your pink outfits.....but that might take an excavator!

Or, what us naughty kids did here is have to move a massive piece of wood usually like 200 pounds from the front to back yard or across the property so many times. That thing was not round either, it was square. No wonder I had muscles and a six pack by the time I went to high school. lol

In the kids defense he might not have done anything wrong.

A lot of this stuff resides in ad's on web sites. The best thing to help curb this is to run firefox or chrome and download the AdBlock + add in. http://adblockplus.org/en/

This nifty little addin blocks almost 99% of adds on web sites.

Thanks for the advice tango. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, but this always happens after he leaves. He just needs to bring his own computer over from now on.

Just got mine out of the shop, $110 for the repair, but that's a lot cheaper than a new computer. It can happen to anyone. My computer is pass word protected. If you don't know the pass word, you don't get to use it! If he knows what he's doing, and you wind up in this spot every time he gets on yours, then I personally wouldn't think about giving him the benefit of the doubt. He needs blisters alright, but not on his hands!

21. Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

Jim one of the biggest things is he really didnt go looking to infect your computer but I do agree with the tuning up a person that writes the virus. My wifes cousin is a computer genius and I asked him why these people write the virus. His answer was because they can. I know myself if I had that type of knowledge I surely wouldnt waste the time to write a virus and destroy peoples property. I know many people that only have one computer and their kids do home work on then, The family uses them for entertainment and for reference work. If their computer became infected they wouldnt have the financial means to correct the situation. It really sucks that these people get away with it. Please be easy on the kid as i know you will.

salad tongs, have him pick up leaves and rocks and stack them.

When my girls just have heartaly clean there rooms and mess, I go by behind them and mess it up all over again, and make them do it right.
It works.
Now I just have to ask if they want my help.

Heck with the holes, make him buy you a new laptop and he can keep your virus ridden one and keep visiting those sites till he gets the blue screen of death. At least he'll leave yours alone.

Please in under 5 minutes 6 if I have to download the program I can crack your windows password and have your computer wide open to me. I am not even that good. I have a buddy that sat down and in 5 minutes hacked into a companies computer system. This was a large government defense contractor who worked on TOP secret projects. 5 minutes and he would create stuff transfer funds around and if he had wanted to could have made off with millions of dollars. He did this in front of the people who ran this as part of a demonstration.

Look up john the cracker.

What everyone has to understand is there are 3 groups of hackers.

Black Hat

White Hat

Gray Hat

Black Hat hackers are out there looking to steal from whom ever. They are the ones that write viruses and malware.

White Hat hackers are the guys who work for the government or private businesses they will get paid to hack companies web sites and what not. This is by far one of the highest paid jobs in all of the IT world.

Gray Hats might do some bad things but normally they don't steal or harm anyone.

Here is what you need to make sure you are doing.

1. Keep your AV (Free or paid for) UP TO DATE.
2. Make sure you clean your system up once a month to once a week. Running mal ware scans by Super Antispyware, malarebyts, or Spy Bot S&D.
3. Make sure your computer is current on all updates and make sure you have auto updates turned on.
4. Make sure to use any browser except for IE. I use chrome and firefox except at work then I only use IE to run network admin software that is intranet only.
5. Make sure you are running adblock Plus on your browser.
6. Make sure your windows firewall is turned on.
7. STOP installing TOOL BARS with other installs. Tool bars no matter what they do are havens for malware. All them cute puppie today, and Free stuff tool bars will kill you.

Free AV I like
Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...e.aspx?q=virus

AVG AntiVirus 2013 Free http://download.cnet.com/AVG-AntiVir...-10320142.html

avast! Free Antivirus http://www.avast.com/index

I have been running Microsoft Security Essentials ever since it came out. I have yet to have a single problem with any of my 4 PC's. 1 of which stays on 24-7 as it is the hub of my Home Theater System.

So can't blame the kids 100%...

Cost me $90 last year because my nephew was playing B&B on Facebook and picked up a virus. It wasn't his fault, every computer geek in town was cleaning computers all infected with the same virus. I had 3 programs to defend against that and one of the things this virus did was stop me from accessing any clean up programs and kept tossing pop ups saying I had to pay to send for the cure. Nobody wants to brag to me that he is a hacker and is responsible for a worm or Trojan or any other malware because I will hurt him.

Some of us nerds have the knowledge, but choose not to because what's the point? Btw I haven't ran an anti virus in 4 years. I also have a IP scrambler and also some of these "hackers" know of me from my early days,if they found out it was mine they might as well kiss their computer goodbye if it ever turns on again.

(Us honest ones use the nerd force wisely. )
