I just purchased a Savage Mark II .22lr. Do any of you have experience with this rifle? What kind of accuracy should I expect? I will primarily use this for squirrel hunting but, I really like little tiny groups.

Itll give them to you. I have had 2 and my FIL has a .22 mag. All 3 were one holers for me with CCI ammo. Mini mags in the .22LR and maximags in the .22mag.
I traded mine away some time ago for different stuff. But i wouldnt hesitate to grab another. Put a BSA catseye scope on top of it and youll have a real nail driver out to 50 yds easy.

It's super accurate, especially for a lower priced .22 LR.
I've had mine for two years, installed the BSA Sweet 22 AO scope, and with that Accutrigger, the gun is capable of greater accuracy and precision than this shooter. In the right hands, it even outshoots those modified $450 10/22's at the range. Not too particular on ammo brand either. It's a little heavy for hunting, but if you do your part, the squirrel population will decrease significantly! |

I have mark ii bv with the heavy barrel, and it is such a tack driver. It's my favorite .22 by far.

Great gun. Expect excellent accuracy. With scope steady groups out to 100 yards. CCI is best ammo for me. Have Mk 2 G/wood stock-no accutrigger.

bought one for the wife just as a cheap fun rifle for her. threw on a cheap tasco scope from walmart at same time. CCI minimags are possibly the best round available.
I got a chance to sight in her scope after she complained about it. at 25yds I was shooting at the 1/4" red dots on target. first shot took out dot. next 2 I thought went flying. tried another dot with same results. then I went to inspect target. both times all 3 shots went same hole!!!!!

Did you get the sporter barrel or the varmint barrel? The varmint barrel will give you better accuracy but both are very accurate. I'd tell you how well mine has shot but I would just be called a liar for saying it.
Try a lot of different ammo to see what works best. They are sorta finnicky about ammo. CCI SV has worked well for me and stuff like Eley Black box stuff is great but expensive. For hunting Stingers would be good but they won't be as accurate most likely. If you can hit tree rats in the head you can kill them with about any round except the real light powered rounds but I would suggest using something more powerful. |
