Default TWIST RATE 45/70..?

HI, I JUST BOUGHT AN OLD REMINGTON #5 ROLLING BLOCK (CURRENTLY 7MM) I WANT TO REBARREL TO 45/70, (FOR FUN & RELAXATION) I HAVE A .458 BARREL WITH A 1-14 TWIST RATE - I KNOW THAT IS KIND OF QUICK (1-18 or 22 IS RECOMENDED). MY QUESTION IS, WILL SHORT (300 GR) BULLETS BE LESS ACCURATE - ""OVER STABILIZED"" ?

I HAVE A CORBIN SWAGGING OUTFIT & PLAN TO MAKE SOME LONG / HEAVY / POINTED BULLETS (AGAIN JUST FOR FUN..) AND I ONLY WANT THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, WHERE ACCURACY IS CONCERNED..

THANKS FOR ANY SAGE ADVISE (EXPERIANCE..) TIM.

My reference states 18-22 twistrate for 45/70. That being said, you would have to experiment for your situation. I have done exactly what you intend on a #5 rollingblock. Got a heavy target barrel from E.R. Shaw. Dont remember the twist at this moment. Never did print it on paper but it knocked down steel targets at 100 yds with open sights.

By the way, you can get a threaded barrel from E.R. Shaw for $170.00. All you have to do is fit it and cut for extractor.
