Hi Jerry.....welcome to TFF and especially to the 1911Nuts Forum!
I had a shooting buddy who had a DW revolver (one of the ones with interchangeable barrels) in .357 magnum. It was a very nicely-made gun, and shot very well. Don't know about the DW auto pistols. |

-I'm back and I'll had to jump into this one.
Dan Wesson has come to be one of the most competitve 1911 makers in the US. Bob Serva has brought his company up to a standard that is rivaling the top dogs of the industry. A couple of months ago, I was on a search for a 1911. Thinking of a Springfield or Kimber, I stumbled onto the 1911forum.com, and made a complete turnaround after reading the threads over there. I don't think any manufacturer makes a perfect non-problematic 1911; they are mechanisms. However, Bob frequents that website and listens to his customers on design, style and problems and has on occasion given out his cell no. to help. Not many (or any) company presidents have gone that far to help people that own their company's merchandise. To back up my belief, I have a DW Pointman Dave Pruitt custom enroute as we speak- one I found when traveling on business- and I have on order a new issue-DW Patriot Commander Bobtail in a 10mm. BTW, that website plays no favorites and has input on all 1911's. Though they are in their infancy, DW is putting the same quality in their 1911's that they put in their revolvers. |

Glad to see you both, needleace and jerry1911, on TFF.
We hope you will pull up a stump often and jaw with us. You will find a nice bunch of congenial folks here and you'll find that the collective knowledge is second to none.

I had the chance awhile back to fire a Pointman at the range.
Nothing wrong with the DW 1911. Fit and finish were good. Accuracy was good with 230 ball ammo. |

Thanks thats good to hear .He is buying the Dan Wesson and i bought the Smith & Wesson so we can both have to more 1911 s to shoot no sence in us both buying the same pistol.I found it more fun when we buy a new gun to both buy different models and makes so we can have more of a variety to shoot .I thought the Dan Wesson looked really nice and felt great but i really love Smith & Wesson.I will let you know how they shoot we are going to the range to shoot tommarrow >

-was here back when it was associated with ezboard and the
big brother of the Firearms Enthusiast. I still stop in over there just to see how everyone's doing, though I don't post as much as I once did. A lot of the people still over there, are over here. Just getting time now to spend some time on the computer, and stopping back into some old haunts Anyway-look for the DW line in 2004- There will be two GLOBAL variations-.45 and 10mm Two commander variations-one standard and one bobtail (ala Ed Brown) in .45 and 10mm and Officers model all of which will be PATRIOT standards and the 10mm Razorback will be upgraded to Patriot standards. There will also be less expensive models in production. All of the Patriot (top of the line) equivalents are made from custom parts-CM, STI, and some others. They are also less costly than the custom guns- The new Globals are suggested retail at around $1195. All of the rest -the suggested retail will be under $900. Even now the 2003 Patriots can be had for under $650. Accuracy to one inch at 25yds, w/ proof target enclosed. I don't know for sure, but I don't think you could by the same parts and have a gunsmith put them in a gun any cheaper. I think they are worth the look. I'll try to post a pic of my DW/DP/Pointman when it comes in and if I can get to the range maybe a target as well. Thanks for the welcome- |

What Needleace said plus I'll add the fact that I have two DW 1911's. A PM9-S (9mm) and just yesterday I picked up a PTE-S (.45). I have ran 200 rds through the 9mm with NO malfunctions. Fit and finish is top notch for a gun in this price range. I plan to shoot the Expert tomorrow weather permitting. I also was looking at the other 1911's and had no idea that DW even made one until I got on 1911forum and read about them. I also plan to get a 10mm soon and it'll probably be a DW Razorback. ![]() |

Well I took off to the farm this afternoon after work to shoot the new Expert. Got there and then realized I'd left the targets at home!! Anyway I shot a 100rd mixture of Win USA 230gr and PMC 230gr at a knot on a tree at 10 yds. Only problem I encountered was with the McCormick mag that came with the gun. Twice it failed to keep the slide open on the last shot. I also had a Wilson mag and one that came with a Kimber? that work like a charm.
It did seem to shoot 5-6 inches low even at 10yds but then again I was aiming at a tree knot !! Anyways maybe I'll get to go again soon and this time targets will travel. Let you know how it goes. Any ideas on the problem with the McCormick mag? |

-it might be the mag spring. Do a search (or request) here
and over at the 1911 to confirm this. If I remember correctly, (and not being a gunsmith) it seems I remember, this has been a problem in the past. Unless the mags are Wilson mags, I generally ask for and replace them with Wolff springs. Hope this helps. Good luck. Last edited by needleace; 02-05-2004 at 10:45 AM.. |
