A lady who has been a friend of the family since I was a baby brought over a Ruger Bearcat .22 single 6 for me to clean today...I really injoyed cleaning it, her husband had used it alot before he was killed back when I was a teen, the wear on the finish where it had been holstered (in the leather holster which still accompanies the piece) many times prompted me to dream about the many trips it must have taken with this good man.
At the moment, I forget how old the firearm is, but I have a question about it...Did they ever make one which only fires .22 shorts? I really doubt it, as a LR fits the cylinder just fine, allowing it to cycle... but she thought otherwise. The gun does not say anything at all about the caliber on the side of the barrel like I'm acustomed to seeing. When she returns, I can ask about the purchase date if that has any bearing on the answer. Like I say I'm 99.9 percent sure that I know what I'm talking about, but I didn't want to take a chance. Thanks guys ~Crp

As best I remember, they were designed for regular or HP Short, Long or Long Rifle. Most I knew who had an older Bearcat used Long Rifle.
A booklet on this item in .pdf format is available on the Ruger Website, here: Bearcat Booklet

Thanks Marlin, It says that the Bearcat relvolvers are intended to be used with any standard make of .22 Long Rifle, Long, or Short ammunition in either regular or high velocity loadings. I thinks this sums it up.
