Any of you have experience with a 1911 in 460 Roland? I read about one the first time in a book last night. Apparently Clark in La makes a barrell and comp for it. Takes thicker brass and pushes a 230 gr at something like 1200fps?

Might look at this too.
LTS The 45 SuperŽ - True 45 Magnum Power The 45 SuperŽ originated in the early 1980's starting with the collaboration of Dean Grennell, Tom Fergerson, and Ace Hindman, to create a more powerful 45 automatic cartridge. While the early work of these three were all influential, the 45 SuperŽ cartridge and the firearms to shoot it, were ultimately developed and refined in the heart of the Texas by Ace Hindman of Ace Custom 45's in Kerrville, Texas. The original 45 SuperŽ handguns were all based on the 1911 style 45 automatics. Ace Custom 45's, the Home of the 45 SuperŽ, is now under the operation of Garey Hindman, Ace Hindman's son, who has continued the development and expansion of the 45 SuperŽ to include the conversion of not only the 1911 style handguns, but also for the S&W 4506 and Glock. To find out more about the origin of the 45 SuperŽ and the process of converting your handgun to shoot the 45 SuperŽ, you should visit the Home of the 45 SuperŽ. The exterior dimensions of the 45 SuperŽ case are identical to the 45 ACP. During the early development of cases for the 45 SuperŽ by Ace Hindman, many different cases, most predominantly the old 451 Detonic's cases, were modified to function in the 45 SuperŽ handguns. Through the work and development by Ace Hindman, the specifications necessary for the 45 SuperŽ case to handle the increased pressures of the 45 Super were determined and standardized and ultimately resulting in the 45 SuperŽ cases which are now commercially available from Starline Brass. The new and stronger design of the 45 SuperŽ case means that the velocities and power can be achieved by the 45 SuperŽ that are far superior to that of the old 45 ACP. The 45 SuperŽ delivers more energy on target than any factory 45 ACP ammunition. Additionally, because the 45 SuperŽ and the 45 ACP share the same external dimensions, the 45 Super system becomes the most versatile high power shooting system available today because anyone who has a firearm chambered for the 45 SuperŽ can use standard 45 ACP ammunition (loaded to standard hardball levels or higher), and can then acquire magnum power simply by loading 45 SuperŽ ammunition. Once a firearm has been modified: - !!!! No barrels or other parts need to be changed !!!! - No other shooting system offers such versatility with so little effort. There may be other 45 automatic cartridges with more power than the 45 SuperŽ, but all of these cartridges require either much larger and heavier guns, or heavily compensated guns, both impractical or uncomfortable to carry and use for hunting or self defense -- and none of these systems give the added versatility of also being able to shoot standard 45 ACP ammunition. The versatility of the 45 SuperŽ makes the 45 SuperŽ the only practical 45 caliber automatic handgun that produces true magnum power. 45 SuperŽ Express!!! With the addition of its new 45 SuperŽ Express loads designed for 45 SuperŽ with a 6" barrel and slide, the 45 SuperŽ concept gains even more versatility. The 45 SuperŽ Express loads generate a muzzle velocity of 1200fps with the Hornady 230 grain XTP-JHP and 230 grain FMJ-FP and a whopping 529 foot pounds of energy at 100 yards out of a 6" barrel and slide. Note, however, that these loads will not generate these results out of a 5" barrel. If you are a hunter and need a firearm to meet the requirements of 500 foot pounds of energy at 100 yards, the 45 SuperŽ Express is the most practical conversion available. All that you need is a 6" barrel and slide, or a 6" ported barrel for your existing 45 SuperŽ handgun. Converting Exiting 45 ACP Handguns |

isn't a bit thicker at the web than is R-P .45 ACP brass. I sectioned and miked them. the 460 brass IS thicker, and gets 230 gr jhp's to 1350 fps, a serious increase above the super. You dont need a fully supported barrel for the Super loads, but you do for the 460 loads.
