What kind of range do I have on my Ruger .44 Super Red Hawk with some typical loads? I've got some reloaded shells that are a little higher power(300 grain cast-lead flatnose; I cant remember how much powder though) and I want to use it for deer hunting. If the range isn't too far, I wont bother getting a scope put on it.

I shoot 310gr Cast Garrett's in my Redhawk - 8" barrell. 1325fps as advertised. I use the iron sights on it and feel comfortable out to 100 yds. I feel it carries decent energy out to 150-200 yds, but wouldn't take a shot like that with my skills (or lack there of...)

Oh, found a document that puts the 100 yd energy of this round at 870 ft lbs. (muzzle is 1200....)

Where did you find the info at? I'd like to look at some differant loads to see what I would want to shoot.
Are the Garret's about the same as other brands, or is there a significant differance? Thnaks for the info. Country101 |
