I bought 40 rounds of surplus 7.62x54R tonight at Dunhams (to go along with my new to me M44) and would like to know if I've got corrosive primers.
I rember sometime back seeing a website detailing what the headstamps meant, and figured I cound discern from that what I've got, but I can't find the website. So if anyone knows what a headstamp that looked like this can tell me... ![]() ...or can direct me to a place to find out, I'd appriciate it.

As far as I know, all surplus 7.62x54r is corrosive. No problem with corrosive ammo if you clean promptly (and properly) after firing.
I have some of the Albanian surplus from the '80s ('88 IIRC) and it is reliable and very accurate. It stinks to high heaven (makes your nose sting and your eyes water) but it all works. I've heard that some of the Alby from various date lots is not as good as others. Don't know about that but if it's good, it's very good. |

Thanks folks. Found out what I wanted to know
It appears that I also have some Albanian surplus and, at least the pack I opened, was made in 1989.
