It's about time to pick up a few .223, but I wanted to ask my fellow shooters where they go for bulk (1k-2k rnds) I dont want "junk" but I dont wanna overpay either.
I'm looking at: 223 LAKE CITY XM193 55GR FULL METAL JACKET U.S.G.I. LAKE CITY AMMO, BRAND NEW BOXER PRIMED, U.S. MILITARY AMMO PACKAGED BY FEDERAL... This is going for 199 for 1k rounds at Ammoman, free shipping. I really dont wanna shoot wolf. and this seems like my best deal without sacrficing quality. Thanks guys. ~Crp

Any US made ammo will be better than its outside US counterpart, plus it is reloadable. If this is for a .223 stamped receivers, then expect lower pressure loads. If it is for 5.56 stamped receivers, you can't go wrong. Lake City rules!

I really like the South African PMP. It is reloadable brass cased and very clean. I have also shot some of the Russian Silver Bear 62gr. HP. Except for the fact that it is steel case, it really isn't bad. At least it isn't a laquered case, they zinc plated it. And if you only want it for WSHTF, you aren't going to worry about picking up your brass anyway. Aim Surplus has this ammo for $110 per 1k.

CD:
I have given some thought to "cache" ammo, My real opinion is that ammo will just become un-affordable someday, I am of a mind that TS will not HTF in my lifetime...Boy, I hope I'm right too. Anyway, said all that to say, I would really like a lesser quality cache of ammo, just to bulk up for that day, but my quandary is, that if we dont have any world changing events in my lifetime, then I will eventually have to shoot the stuff...So, I dont know what to do in that area. Maybe I think too much. Anyway, I will give a look at the "South African PMP" for those purposes (is it that much cheaper?), Thanks for the response. *EDIT* CD: I just noticed that you listed the price for the Russian SIlver Bear @ 110 for 1k rounds, (wow, thats cheap) so nix the question in this post for that, I cannot seem to get into the AIM Surplus ammo area, but I will peek at the SA PMP round as soon as I can. Any other comments regarding these "lesser quality rounds" for storage? maybe investment purposes? What if they did exersize a huge tax on ammo in our lifetime? ~Crp

if you want to stick to U.S. ammo, check out the places listed below. They list Federal American Eagle 55gr. FMJ for $80 per 500 rounds. Winchester USA 55gr. FMJ is listed at the same price. If anyone finds any SF PMP at a decent price, please let me know. I haven't found any in two years.

Georgia Arms - Reloads for ~$70.00 for 500 in a can. Recently bought some Isreali 300 rnd battle packs new ammo (SS109 as I recall) for $69.00 at a shop.
Georgia Arms is on the web - they do new ammo too, but I haven't had any issues with their reloads. |
