Would anyone be interested in a monthly contest?
Nothing to sophisticated or technical and with a changing course of fire determined by the previous months winner? If anyones interested lets try and get something going. It hasnt rained for 2 whole days now so maybe things will dry out enough for me to get to my range soon.

Sounds good, it’s getting to the range with “time to play” that seems to be my problem. I would hope I could participate in some of them though.

I was just wondering if anyone would be interested. I seem to find time to go shooting if I have a reason...like a match. Was thinking of something besides just shooting groups.
Pickenup, I lived in Georgetown for a couple of years....bout 10 years ago now that I think about it. Dang now I do feel old. ![]()

I hope you have more luck than I'm having at RimfireShooters, only about 6-7 people entered. Seems like people are too embarassed to post low scores ... oh well, maybe it will pick up for this month.
By the way .... I'd be interested in shooting in an informal match here. |

Whatever happened to the element of having "FUN", outlander?
It is a shame when even serious shooters forget that the fun of one's hobbies comes first and foremost. I love to shoot because it's fun, and it's even better if I'm lucky to get a real good target. It still doesn't affect the fun curve one bit, though, if it isn't up to par.....

Well shoot, lets do it then.
I'm not afraid to post lousy targets...in fact I'm pretty good at it. When I get home tonight I'll find us a target to shoot at on knitepoet's list and we'll give it a go. I'll even send a prize to the winner. I'll think up some rules or something like rules but I'm sure open to suggestions. WARNING: My thinking ain't so good especialy while laying Formica and sniffing glue fumes all day so the rules will be simple...much like myself. ![]()

I'm very flexable with the rules and use novelty targets ... but I guess if you cant turn in a high score people dont want anyone to know about it. Our Admin. started a benchrest shoot, I never shot that before and my score at 50 yrds. was 180 ... can't get much worse than that .... WHO CARES ? I had fun shooting it. They were having the same problem at TheHighRoad too many felt they couldnt shoot well enough to enter .... I dont know .... I'm starting to ramble now so I'll shut up. I'd still like to be part of a match if you all decide to have one here. |

I'll shoot some. I'm finally getting my house in order. My son brought some of my guns to me last weekend. It is going to be embarassing, but I'll suffer through it.

keppler,
Do you know where Idaho Springs is, more specifically, the Dumont exit off I-70, a few exits east of Idaho Springs? That is where one of the gun clubs that I belong to is. The club has been there for a LONG time. Did you ever go there? Here is their website. Clear Creek Range I “hope” to be going with the Mrs. tomorrow so she can get in a little practice. This Saturday, she will be participating in her first “match” ever, I want her to get in a little practice before she goes under the clock. So while she is practicing, MAYBE I can get in a little shooting, to get this “monthly” contest underway. If so, I will post a pic, good or bad. ![]()

Pickenup...seems like I remember the place. Is that the exit with the little chile place maybe...been a long time. Still remember "Oh My God Road" though. Used to really like Black Hawk and Central City before the gambling came. Met a man who was moving away from up on the hill above Black Hawk because of the gambling, had a burro named Gene, everytime he would call "Gene damnit" that ol' burro would bray real loud....like he was gripeing back.

July Match Rules:
Date: ends at 8:00 PM Okie Time...Central Time to furiners.... July 31...it's a short month...ain't they all. Range: 10 Shots at 25 and 10 shots at 50 Yards. Shoot both just be sure and state which range the targets were shot at. And post the results. Rifles with scopes or open sights but will be judged the same. Pistols can be used but judged the same. Next month someone else can come up with the rules...payback. NO Rests..nada, nyet, nien...none. You can sit at a table with your arms resting on top but the gun must be held in both hands. No bags or rests allowed. Ok ...thats way to many rules so go shooting and lets see some targets. ![]()

That sounds like a good course of fire: No rests. No sandbags.
Ten shot groups? 10 shots for score? Might be hard to score 10 shots on one target, as there may be a lot of overlapping shots that cut sections of the scoring rings out. Joe

keppler,
I had my head screwed on backwards in my last post. (nothing new) The exit is “WEST” (not east) of Idaho Springs. The place you are talking about is KERMITS, That road goes down and connects to 6th Ave. I stop at Kermits often for that chili. They are making a BRAND NEW paved highway that goes from Idaho Springs (over the top) to Central City, so that folks can get there easier to gamble. It is not going by way of “Oh My GOD” road. That is the road I usually take to get to the range. (in the summer time) Love that view. I used to spend many hours in Central City, having lunch and shooting the breeze, before gambling went in. Can’t stand the place now. I seem to remember hearing stories about that burro. ![]()

Will post something up as soon as the 4-day forcast stops looking like chicken little did the weather. _z |
