Default Hot peppers

Put up a few hot peppers. Mostly habenaro but some jalapeno and cayenne. Have some tabasco peppers to pick and put up next. Don

ISP, what I sent you were 90% habenaros with a few jalepenos on top. It can be a cruel joke to someone who likes peppers but not real hot ones. Don

Love peppers! Used to eat em as hot as I could get em. Not anymore. Good jalepenos with some meals are my limit now. Some banana peppers thrown in there also.

We put in 6 sweet banana pepper plants and have been eating high on the hog foe weeks now. They are good in almost everything.

Next year, gonna add some mild hot peppers also.

I was sitting watching TV last night while eating from a jar of assorted hot peppers in oil. They were jalapenos, hot cherry peppers, some cayens, scotch bonnets--mild to moderate. I got up to go to bed and used the same two fingers I was picking peppers with to peel the contact lense out of my right eye. That got my attention!

While I was running around looking for my bottle of saline solution, I stopped. I realized it felt kinda good! I went ahead pulled the lense from the left. My wife thinks I'm weird. She said: "Your not going to start macing yourself with pepper spray--are you?"

Anybody tried that?

Ok guys I'm looking for a recipe. A guy I used to work with used to give me a jar every year of chilli's packed with whole garlic cloves, brown sugar, and ginger. A very oriental style flavour. Personally I would have liked a hotter pepper, but eating just the cloves of garlic was great too.

Unfortunately I've dropped ou of touch with this guy. If anybody has a pickling recipe that sounds familiar I want it!

Dcon, you dont let the habanaros turn orange before picking them? Also, I was wondering how you prepared the peppers before storage? The best way I have found is to boil, then dehydrate, then crush them...I still have habs and jalapenos that we grew 2 years ago like that...we like to season our beef jerky with it, fact is that jerky will blow the top of your head off.

Do you get the Red Savinas (habanaro) in you neck of the woods?

Good stuff!!!! I know they are patented. But not hard to get. Think they are reg. as the hottest of the Hab. family.

I just boil some viniger and water and pour over the peppers placed in the jars and sealed. I pick most green but some I pick after they have tuened just to add color. Makes for a good looking jar of peppers. I eat them all winter when I can't get them fresh. Pepper sauce is better than no peppers in my book. Don

All y'all wantin HOT jalepenos listen up. When you have a bush full of green peppers, STOP watering them. Let them go until you see little woody striations along the lines of the pepper. Pick them and start watering again. The point where you stop watering and let them turn woody, puts the plant in stress and all of the plants efforts go into producing the seeds. This builds the capsaisin level of the seed and makes the pepper RED hot. Pick and wait for the next batch. I nearly created a fire in my mouth the first time I did this by accident. Lost power to the sprinklers for a few days and then restarted. I mean to tell ya those were the hottest peppers I ever ate. Do it all the time now and any pepper I grow goes through this water free state. I also sun dry mine on a table in the back yard. Great eating, just make sure you have ice cream after eating them for the next days adventure!

Plano, no need to go through all that trouble, Just plant one habenaro plant on all four sides of the jalapeno, I promise they will be hot.

It happens with any pepper plant. Stop watering and all survial modes go to the seeds which is where the capsaisin comes from. Good luck, my friend. I will try your suggestion next year with my plants.

you can't beat pure capsun oil if you like it hot. a couple of drops goes along way.

It's the active ingredient in just about every hot pepper there is.

I have put up a few thousand jars of peppers in my time also
Here is a good way to put up a few jars
1 1/2 pounds of peppers (your choice)
1 large onion
6 cloves of garlic
place chopped onion and garlic in blender and blend well (almost to a liquid)
then blend peppers mix all ingredients in a large stainless steel bowl
add six (6) ounces of Olive oil mix again. place the chow-chow into jars and cover with boiling vinegar seal and store.
Caution if hot hot peppers are used do not remove the chow-chow from the jar with a plastic fork mine melted.
