Default Mrs.Njretcop, A chemo question

How long ,after you stopped chemo, did it take for you to start feeling better and for the side effects to subside? Did you loose your hair? Mine is dry and unhealthy looking, but it hasn't fallen out yet.

I took 4 treatments, now I'm on a 2 week break, then 4 more, another 2 week break, then 2 more. The doctor says that is a lite treatment schedule, and they are doing less chemicals than normal agressive chemo. If this is lite, I don't want heavy!

I was told all chemo drugs are different. The first time both drugs said I would loose my hair. I did -- ALL hair except for a few strays for eyebrows and eyelashes. Second time my hair only thinned out ALL over. The first time I had high dose over a short time period followed by 47 radiation treatments and the second time chemo was spread out over six months. According to the articles I have read it varies from person to person how long it takes to feel better. The only side effects was queezy feeling and that was gone a month after I finished. Took me about a year before I noticed the difference with being tired. Still don't have the stamina I had before, but then again I'm 8 years older and have had cancer 3 times. I just let my body tell me when I was/am tired and didn't fight it. Hang in there !

Thanks folks. I think I just had the expectation that I would get to feeling better during this two weeks of no treatments. I feel as bad as when I am doing them. Oh well, I'll survive.

The radiation oncologist asked me if I was religious. He said he was Jewish but told all his patients to pray whatever their religion was and take any prayers anyone offered. Also to get real angry at the disease and not let it take over you. I like to pass that on to anyone who I know who has cancer. Seemed to help me and also my mom who had cancer 5-6 times during her life. Hang in there! And as always, prayers sent.
