Default Caffeine

So I quit caffeine about a week ago. Just upped and quit, I'm still not sure why. No chocolate, no soda (which I didn't drink anyway), and only decaf coffee.

Now I wasn't a HUGE caffeine drinker in the past. I'd drink a large cup in the morning, and maybe a smaller cup in the evening after dinner.

My shooting has gotten incredibly better. I always had shaky hands, but now they are really steady. My groups are half the size they were and I'm just amazed. I can really feel the difference.

Has anyone else had a similar story? Has anyone else had the courage to try to quit caffeine?

I got off caffeine about a year ago. Gave me a raging headache for the first two days. But I'm better off without it. It causes spikes in your blood sugar levels, which can lead to all other kinds of problems.

If DOT ever outlaws Nicotine and caffiene for drivers, I guess I'll have to find a new line of work. Although I am trying to wean myself from the nicotine, just getting to expensive.

I went to the doctor a while back complained about bad headaches everyday and he asked if I had changed my diet lately.I replied that I quit drinking coffee a few weeks ago.He told me that was why I got headaches.I left there, went straight to our local Tim Hortons Donuts and got me a large coffee and an apple fritter. My headache went away in 45 minutes. He said a little coffee wouldn't hurt you and said it's better than the headache. Now about the donut-well,lets just say he doesn't know about that .

That's funny. I too am getting everyday headaches. They kick in about noon, and stick with me until I go to bed. Ibuprofin works, and ironically so does liquor. Er, not that I drink or anything. The reason is because coffee is a vasodilator (I don't know how to spell that). It expands the bloodvessels increasing blood flow. When you quit, the bloodvessels contract, hence the headache. I, however, am hoping that the headaches will stop after another week or so. If not, I'm gonna become an alcoholic.

Of course, I've been drinking 3 big cups of coffee a day since I was about 10 or so (the 7-11 size big gulps). The caffeine withdrawel is worse then when I quit smoking.

Ibuprofin is an anti inflamatory thats reduces swelling and I have to take this for back pain untill I get back surgery.I find that it isn't very helpful for headaches.Excedrin works wonders, but had caffeine in it.Try the excedrin without the caffiene and see what it does.

Gotta have my two cups in the morning(big cups),but after that,no way.If I've got the shakes later,a couple of beers will take care of that.

I've cut back drastically on caffeine also several years ago. Headaches were real bad. When I am home I keep to caffeine free soda and hot/iced tea. Only have one cappuccino at work and sometimes on the weekend. I treat myself if we go out to dinner or like this weekend at Boogerville. The little bit now and then doesn't hurt.

Years ago I was drinking iced tea and Diet Coke all day long, and decided to quit on the weekend, not giving it much thought. So I stopped.

Suddenly, I came down with a raging case of "flu" for no reason I could think of. I ached all over, had a blasting headache like a migraine (I've had migraines) and chills so bad I went to bed and was piling up comforters to try to stay warm. As I was lying there shaking, teeth chattering and in pain, it occurred to me I had stopped the caffeine.

So I staggered out to the kitchen, and made myself one glass of tea and drank it, & went back to bed. Within a few minutes, a miracle occurred.

I was up and calmly reading the paper within 45 minutes, vowing NEVER to quit caffeine cold turkey again.

It only takes a day or two to taper off caffeine, but it saves me a living Hades and I've never had a repeat of that withdrawal. Word up.

I tested the theory today. For me, anyway, the coffee did not elevate the sugar.....
