Default Ruger Customer Service

As some of you may remember, I dropped my Ruger New Model Blackhawk off at their factory in Newport, NH a week ago Monday to be fitted with another cylinder.

I bought it used from a person who apparently rarely fired it and over the years lost the 45 LC cylinder. When it was new, it came with interchangable 45 cylinders to fire both 45 Long Colt and 45 acp rounds. You cannot buy the cylinder from Ruger through the mail as it must be fitted to the particular gun for which it was made. (It is then serial numbered to the gun.)

I explained to the customer service rep who handled my request how I came into possession of the gun and did not get the second cylinder, instruction book or original box with it.

Today, 10 days later, the FedEx truck pulled up in front of our house and delivered my gun. When I opened the outer box, I found my gun in original wrapping, inside an original box and with an original instruction booklet. Both cylinders were marked with the last three digits of the serial number.

I could not be happier with Ruger and intend to write and tell them so. So often, we complain about poor service and do not acknowledge GOOD service.

GOOD ON YOU RUGER!!!!

Glad they were so nice to you, Charlie. Enjoy.

Unfortunately many years ago, I had an old model 4 5/8" Blackhawk in 41 Mag. Ruger offered to put their trasfer bar mechanism in it if you sent them the gun. I sent it to them with the most sweet, light and crisp trigger that I ever had on a Blackhawk. What I got back was a trigger pull of about 12#, creep from the beginning of the pull and the worst overtravel of my life. Thank God they sent back the old parts. I had my gunsmith reinstall them and I was back to the old gun.

Happy yours worked out for you.

I can buy any brand gun but good customer service is something you have to shop for. Thanks for the input Charlie and I am glad to hear of your good experience.

Ruger has excellent customer service. I would also mention Kel Tec as having exceptional service.
I have had bad experiences with Smith & Wesson in Springfiled ,MA and with Taurus.
,but in fairness, customer service is a function of the individual you get on the phone, but all in all, I would rate Kel Tec and Ruger at the top.
Smith and Wesson would not mail me any instruction manuals for pistols that I bought used when I could not find exploded diagrams and parts lists, Ruger and Kel Tec have mailed me alot, and mostly free of charge. Taurus had a rep who barely spoke English.

Agree with the KelTec and Ruger comments on good service,
same for Glock from what I hear...haven't anything wrong with mine...

inplanotx,
I believe you'll find "most", if not all factories will return any gun sent to them with original triggers, etc. The reason is they can't accept the liability on any conversion work. They do return your parts so you can reinstall, but then it's not their responsibility.

We're signing up as a Glock Dealer/Rental Pistol Program, and I know I read this in their brochures just within the last couple of days.

I had a Ruger P944 which gave me trouble, battered the frame during recoil. I sent it back to the factory, Prescott AZ, and they sent me a new one AND THEY PAID THE FREIGHT BOTH WAYS AND THE DEALER CHARGE FOR THE PAPERWORK. Now that is great customer service.
Ruger has the absolute BEST customer service.

ODT, I know. However, this trigger was so screwed up, my gunsmith would not touch their trigger job. He told me the fitting and pieces were a major hack job and it looked like someone who knew nothing about pistols worked on it. He told me there was about 6 or 7 burrs on the new trigger parts that were left in place. You could only pull that trigger with a hammer. This was back in the 70's.

I have to also speak up for Ruger's customer service. I sent two revolvers to the factory and the turn around time was fast and the service great. The Super Redhawk I sent them was wrecked by Winchester factory ammo (not Ruger's fault) and they fixed the pistol anyways, no questions asked. I've also had no problems with Taurus although their turn around time was considerable. I did have problems with S&W and so did many of my friends. This involved the same type of firearm as well. Local dealers also had to send many back and reported hassles. The absolute best service I got was from Gibbs rifle company. Upon purchasing a Gibbs .303 carbine I had a case seperation with the first shot. I was upset and sent the rifle out on a Monday and got a brand new rifle that Thursday. I think with most companies it just depends on who you happen to talk to or deal with, but it would appear that at least a few companies make it policy to have good custome service. These companies will continue to get my buisiness.

I have also had great experience with Ruger's customer service. I sent a pistol for a safety recall issue and they also sent back a factory hi capacity mag to comp me for the shipping costs.

Unfortunately I will no longer be buying any Ruger products due to the fact they will not change their policies in light of the sunset of the AWB. There goal appears to try and be politically correct. Maybe they think the gun grabbers will leave them alone, but they need to realize the gun grabbers simply want to put them and every other gun company out of business.

I will not contribute any business to a company who will perpetuate the myth that the ban was a good idea, and I urge everyone to let them know
if you feel the same.
