I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on my Colt AR15. I believe it is an SP1 as the serial number begins with SP. The receiver is marked:
Colt AR-15 A2, Cal .223, Sporter II All the SP1 models I have seen have had the older triangular handguards but this one has the round handguards, at least that is what was on it when I got it. I picked it up at a gun show years ago. Also, this one does not have a forward assist or case deflector. It has the older sights that you have to adjust with the tip of a .223 round. Are these called the A1 sights? I have never seen another one like this one and would just like to find out any info anyone might have about it and when it was made. I have a couple of pics but I'm not sure how to post them here. I appreciate any info that can be passed along. Thank you!!

No, not the SP1. That's the later version.
What is the serial number, or at least the first 4 or 5 characters?

That is an early R6500, before the forward assist was added. I'd say c.1986 or so.
They are still being offered at around $1250-$1400.
