Default Question for law enforcement folks about CSI/CSU protocol/procedure/interrogations.

Ok, I love CSI and Law & Order shows. There has been a transition lately. Now all of the CSI field investigators are packing Glocks. ,which is fine by me, but here is what has stayed consistent, and I would like to know if it is the case in the real world also, since I know these shows are written by bolsheviks who know very little about actual procedures vis.a vis. firearms/police.
All throughout CSI, the field investigators and the lab rats are interrogating suspects. I thought only detectives interrogate suspects and not the scientists. Is this true? How does it work?
Also, I know these shows are very left leaning. Tonights CSI:NY totally villified fox hunting and portrayed hunters as sadists. I also know, the producer, Jerry Bruckheimer has ties with bolshevik organizations like moveon.org and similar factions of satan., but I am very interested if CSI field investigators do any interrogation?
thanks.

at our dept. we are all pretty much detectives/road cops/interrogators all rolled up in one ball. Jacks of all trades, masters of none.

In another area dept that is considerably larger they normally have evidence technicians that will work with detectives at scenes and I would have to say that the detectives or road officers would be the ones performing interviews and interrogations unless there are exigent circumstances.

Thats insightful goose3, thanks, I had not considered the size of the department in my question. I guess at town of 10,000 would need you guys to multitask as opposed to a city of 500,000.

The techie guys are the techie guys. They generally dont play well with other people, so they would be useless at interview/interrogation. Their job is to support the investigative staff with analysis and evidence processing.

During a fire investigation, we do identify and collect evidence. Since we dont have a lab locally, we send it to Austin for analysis and they send us back a report. If we have to call in the state boys for assistance in evidence collection, they send investigators as well as the lab rats.

Thanks CountryGunSmith, I have always pondered these questions and finally have had enough. I realize these shows are only entertainment, but they affect the minds of children and are very immressionable. I wish these producers would do a better job of making it more realistic. I know CSI has actual detectives doing the interrogations/interviews sometimes, but it seems that the scientists/field investigators do most of it.
The problem is, they don't get paid for being scientists AND detectives, if they did , they would be making in excess of $100,000+/yr.
