The gun is a Steven's Arms Company model 59A bolt action shotgun chambered in .410bore.

The barrel Has stamped on the top as follows

J STEVENS ARMS COMPANY
CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. USA.
.410 BORE PROOF TESTED

to the right of that (with the barrel pointed to the left it has stamped on it

Below and to the right of this is:

21/2 & 3 IN. SHELLS

The stock has been refinished (origional stock).
THe barrel is very shiny
The bolt handle is polished steel as well as the bolt.
The bolt will only operate when the safe is disengaged
The safe is on the right side of the gun when sholdered
Safe is forward, fire is back
It has a tube magizine that will hold 2 3in shells and 2 1/2 in shells.
The finish is thin with a few rush spots.
The bolt is held from coming the whole way out by a screw.
The stock origionally had a black band in the front, but was sanded off during refinishing.

I saw prices on this gun of $200.00 at the last gunshow I was at. I thought it was high. Of course the .410 usually does bring a premium in these old guns.

I believe $125-$150 is a more realistic price point on any .410 bolt action, if its in excellent shape. They are a MUCH easier sell than a 12ga bolt action, though.

I have the same weapon with the exception of the last stamp. Instead of saying 21/2 & 3 IN. SHELLS Mine reads "3 INCH CHAMBER"

Also Can anyone tell me where I can find a serial Number on this weapon?

Your model 59 with the J. Stevens Chicopee Falls address on the barrel narrows down it's manufacture date some.
After Savage bought J. Stevens they continued the J. Stevens until the late
40's and then dropped the J. and called it just Stevens. They moved out of Chicopee about 1960.
The model 59 was manufactured from the 30's thru the 70's.
So, my guess on the manufacture of your shotgun to be 30's or 40's.
I'm with you on the $200 price, that's more than I would expect to get for one, but you never know. The online auctions have about 20 of them from $50to $250 and they don't have bidders at either end. I think if I were retailing a decent one I would mark it $125 or so.

We have all been guilty of tacking onto an old post. I've so done with out looking at the date. thelt, it would have been much better if you had started a new post, tacking on to an old one just muddies the water. Your shotgun may not even have a serial number. Serial numbers on all long arms were not required by law until 1968, prior to that it was up to the manufactures discretion whether or not to do so. Colt, Remington and Winchester used serial numbers for inventory control and quality control, many of the other manufactures did not use serial numbers on their inexpensive guns for economy reason { one less step to do }.
