I am thinking of getting into big game hunting and long range target shooting. I am thinking of buying a rifle but I am not sure what to buy. Does anyone know where to find reliable information on BC's for various brands of ammunition and various calibers? Thanks for any help.

Hello Shadrac, Welcome aboard.

Your question is bit vague.

Do you plan on using the same rifle for both hunting and sport shooting?
What type of big game? What type of sport shoting? Where would you do both activities?

Most imortantly, how much are you willing to spend?

Do you have any experience with either hunting or sport shooting?

Will you get some instruction? From whom?

big game AND long range shooting...

that sounds like a job for the .50 BMG..

The Hornady Handbook for Reloading has a table of BC's, in the back for both rifle and pistol bullets.
The 7mm caliber is where ballistic coefficients, before VLD bullets, used to peak. Now, with 78 gr .224 bullets, I'm not sure; I can tell you, however, that for cutting paper, a .22-250, in the hands of JJ Conway, shoots 7-8" groups, at 1,000 yds, and, with hunting bullets, will dump a well shot deer like it was hit by a truck.
Based on a fundamental laziness in me, I continue to shoot the .308 for most things, simply because I don't have to learn new sight settings.

A big vague is a gross understatement!!! Big game? Deer, elk, antelope? How about bear or moose? Lots of difference in caliber required there, and what do you call "long range?"

To some, long range is 250-500 yds. To others, it's a 1000 yds.

We need more info to help you out. How much do you want to spend? That's the real question.
