Oh Brother!

And the really sad thing is, those folks in the 70s were just as serious about the world cooling off as the ones today are about the world heating up.

I guess the two trends must have cancelled each other out.

It appears from the best thinking scientists that either extreme thought is just a figment of one's imagination.....

I'm forever trying to explain this to younger people who don't remember this earlier version of "catastrophic climate change". I was at the first Earth Day demonstration and I was young, and dumb, enough that I bought the whole line (embarrassing but true). According to the savants of the day, the world ran out of petroleum about 15 years ago. Those were also indisputable facts at the time.

This is what's known as "objective analysis". If you give the politically motivated scientists the objective they'll provide the analysis to support it. Not much has changed since the trial of Galileo.

Perhaps there is global warming; but man's activities have very little to do with it. According to scientists, the sun's temperature is a little hoter than in the past. We didn't cause that. And man wasn't around during the interglacial periods when the ice caps melted.

The earth's climate has always cycled and will continue to do so in spite of what we do or don't do. The Kyoto treaty and earth warming crowd are being lead and financed by socialists who are anti America and anti capitalism.

I have to rally behind Carl on this one!! I usually do agree with what the old soldier has to say. That said, follow me on this line of thinking/reasoning.

At one time the earth was lush, covered with all sorts of plants and animals, weather was warm, life was good. Then something went haywire, and large portions of the planet were covered in ice. Hmmm...don't think the population of the earth at THAT time was close to five billion people...but I digress.

Over time, the earth warmed up again, melting ice caps and glaciers broke off and gouged out lakes and the melting water formed into rivers and flowed into the ocean. Hmmmmm...don't think that there were a lot of folks around during that climatic shift either.....

Now the tree huggers are demanding that we believe THEIR theories are the gospel truth. They have no actual scientific data to back up their claims, though several in the scientific community continue to support their THEORY, writing articles and papers and giving speeches on the subject. Which reminds me that algore gave a speech in New York City last winter, and it was the COLDEST day of the winter season. So much for his wacko mouthings!

Now, this is fact....each year the earth moves a bit closer to the sun, the earth being a planet that revolves around the sun and is held in orbit by the gravitational attraction to the sun. The orbit is decreased by a few inches a year, at least that is what some physicists say, so...if that is the case, man, the internal combustion engine, population increases, fossil fuels, air conditioning and the increased use of hand held blow dryers and gas grills has not one damned thing to do with global warming. Everyone with half a brain knows that if you hold your hand closer to a fire, it gets warmer.

You know, I think Al Gore has actually convinced himself this garbage is true. Did any of you see the comparison of Al Gore's carbon footprint to that of President Bush? I lost the link to it or I would post it.

Fact: Most scientists don't believe in climate change, but can't say so, because of liberal tenure laws at universities where they mostly work.

Fact: The earth is getting colder, not warmer, as the sun moves closer to the earth.

Fact: You can't explain any of this to me, because all I need is common sense and doing science requires examination of way too much boring and meaningless data, and I hate math.

AGW is based upon the presence of man-'made' CO2 in the atmosphere, but, but, but......water vapor is far more prevalent and more influential as a 'greenhouse gas'...... Then there's the itty bitty problem of cosmic rays.......streaming in from outside our solar system, they're high energy particles that interact with in the upper atmosphere and help create clouds........But then there's cyclical 'precession' of the earth in its orbit - around the sun and on its own axis, not to mention disturbances in both that may be the result of internal redistribution of mass due to heat/convection in its liquid core.......But, but, but......there's the 'historical record' - which is very valid, but also subject to who's telling the 'history'.......Just how did the Vikings exist on Greenland for a couple of hundred years ? Why were southern european vinters complaining about the northern markets growing their own grapes ? Why do we find anthropogenic work exposed by melting glaciers ? Why do we find temperate or subtropical plants in Alaskan muskeg/permafrost ?

IOW, yeah there's lots of evidence man - even 'primative man' has had a major impact on the environment. But to claims its 'global' is hubris. To claim its 'global' for financial gain is a con game......And, like the 'rainmakers' of yore, those 'professors' ought to be treated to the same fate if the 'cure' don't work...... >MW

Don't believe that ANYBODY has adequately considered this critical cosmic ray factor....

You're really on to something new here Mr. Millwright-- and gawd knows we need it...

Have you alerted the scientific community ??? Sadly, they're all either Stalinists, or terribly corrupt, and won't heed your words...

Lefty, I got that particular bit of info re "cosmic rays" from the, "scientific community".........You might want to do a search in Scientific American for articles dealing with how extra-solar high energy particles affect earth's upper atmosphere and cloud formation.

Too many of us reason from our egos.....that is, we resist acknowledging any data or information that didn't exist at our most formative years......Science is an ever-changing landscape. We can explore that landscape, or ignore its new horizons and abide in ignorance. After all, 'freedom of choice' is one or American's founding priciples, isn't it ? >MW

Good to hear Scientific American is on to the story; there may be hope yet to expose what is undoubtedly the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American People.

But regretfully, Scientific American is actually just another part of the Liberal Media and has little to do with science.

In fact it's published by Holtzbrinck Group of Germany, which also owns S. Fischer Verlag, a well-known Bolshevik book publisher from the 1920s (founder took leave of abscence during WWII).

Holtzbrinck owns a slew of properties, including the extremely dubious Farrar Strauss & Giroux in the US, which publishes many well-known communist authors. In Germany, they own at least two newspapers, which endorse such things as socialist health care and other drivel.

If you're smart, better not trust anything they publish. I'm gonna need to rethink this cosmic ray thing some.
