I have been accumulating parts to build, or have built an FAK rifle in legal, semi-automatic configuration which complies with the assault weapons laws. Of course, the lure of making it as close as possible to a pre-ban firearm has an appeal.

In buying parts kits and various parts out there, I have noticed that, while the G1 barrel is not threaded, it has the provisions for a number of quick detatch features. These include items such as the flash hider with bayonet mount, muzzle brake, grenade launcher, blank firing adapter, fake flash hider, and who knows what else.

In looking at the provisions of 922r, this is how it appears to me. If an "American made" FAL type rifle were assembled without the pistol grip stock, that is, with the later style near "thumb-hole" or "Dragunov" type stock, it would have the ability to contain one of the other three assault weapons qualifiers, that is, a grenade launcher, flash supressor, or bayonet lug. Remember now, since it doesn't have a folding stock or a pistol grip, it can have one of the qulaifiers that push it to the edge of being an assault weapon without going over.

If it had a G1 type barrel with the quick detatch feature, a person could put a flash hider on it and remain legal. Or, a person could put a grenade launcher on it and remain legal. Of, a person could put a fake flash hider on it which had a real bayonet mount and remain legal. In other words, You could attach any one of these devices to the barrel, but not over one at a time. So the rifle would never have over one of the evil qualifiers at a time, but could accept any one of then at a time.

Thoughts?????

BATF has reclassified the thumbhole stocks as pistol grips now.
