I am the soul of warriors past
I am neither young nor old and
the color of my skin is not important.
You'll find me in many forgotten places.
I lie in flowering meadows in France
and in neatly arranged fields in the Philippines.
I lie in Arlington National Cemetery
and in graveyards scattered throughout America.
I also lie on forgotten hills in Korea,
under the jungle floors of Vietnam
and on ocean bottoms the world over.
I still sit in the cockpit of my fighter,
covered with vines and jungle growth in Borneo
and I rest uncomfortably in a shallow hole
scooped from soil on the Ledo Road in Burma.
I lie in Gettysburg, Kings Mountain, Baghdad,
and on countless other battlefields.
I am proud. I am strong.
I bow to no one other than my God.
My blood paid for your freedom
but you treat me as if I was a stranger.
You can see the color of my blood
waving proudly from your flag
I am the soul of warriors past.
Remember me.
