I buried a soldier today
he was 84.
His war begun long ago.
he was a boy.
His son fights on in his name
his uniform a mirror of his father's.
He looked so good
as he walked him home.
The detail they sent was quite young.
I flinched as the volleys were fired.
The fog held the notes of Taps
and passed it along it's width
to areas beyond the graveyard
so all would know...
we buried a soldier today.

For Curtis RIP sir.

A very good poem Bree. Quite moving in it's short simplicity. I can see the graveside.

Bree This is super. Really I loved it . I was on a 21 gun funeral detail at Fort Hood Tx. in 1968 after Nam. ,and your poem reminded me of those windy days where the taps would go forever. Thanks.
Peace....Barry
