The model 54 that I've been trying to refresh has a scope mount problem. The existing mounts are weaver 2-piece bases with Leupold detacho rings. Unfortunately whoever mounted the bases, missed. they are way out of alignment. If you just clamp the rings onto the bases and go shoot the thing, the scope reticle (leupold mountaineer 4x) has to be adjusted to the maximum extent of the reticle- and it's still an inch or so left of bullseye. I shimmed the rear ring with a 0.026 shim, and it almost mechanincally centers the scope but I havn't checked to see If the rings are in line or if i'm stressing the tube. I am wondering if it would be possible to get a one piece base mount- with no reciever mount holes, clamp it to the top of the reciever and scribe the base through the existing holes-if so , where to I get the blank base, or, what other options do i have???
