Took a firearms safety course and got a certificate for my application for a MA Class A LTC yesterday. I can't figure out the status of the M1 carbine in MA. It's classified as a (shiver!) assault weapon because it has a bayonet lug? I believe the early models don't have the bayonet lug, so where does that leave it? I'm glad to live in a state where drive-by bayonetings have been reduced to a reasonable level, but I can't find a satisfactory answer to this question. Just what in the world is an assualt weapon? Something that looks aggressive? If I get one, can I paint it pink?
