No pictures at this time. Bought a new Rock Island 1911 for retirement. No telling how many rounds I put thru my GI over the years. Been too busy to do much shooting yet. Need to put up a couple of berms but been busy cleaning up from last years Feb. Windstorms and Januarys Ice Storm. Anyway, have been able to put about 600 rounds of hardball thru the RI smothe shooting, good triger, at least as accurate as me. Odd thing I put a number of different brands thru it and an assortment of misc. reloads some of them pretty light. It ate everything. Not one stovepipe. Who would have thought that such a cheap gun would be so good. Mr. Browning was a genious. Amazing, more than 380 posts, so many pictures all the same, all different. Long live old slabsides.

That defender looks an awfull lot like my commanders. What's the difference between the two? I wonder if that recall doesn't apply to my commanders??

I'm a new member up here and over the years I have owned 3 1911's but I sold my Custom Commander. I have two 1911's and one is a Model 80 Colt Government that was accurized by Ikey Starks of Sports West in Denver (since retired) and I told him I wanted a accurate reliable shooter with a good trigger. He installed a target trigger, flat main spring housing, pinned the grip safety, installed a new oversized bushing honed to fit perfectly, and installed kovak combat sights. The second one is a Norinco clone that he customized for me with dovetailed rear sight and custom front sight, custom trigger, flat main spring housing, Nowlin target barrel, pinned grip saftey, and action job. He then did a reverse two finish on the gun. You can't beat the Sa triggers on a great 1911.

I Figured that out after a better look. I'm new at this 1911 stuff, but i'm learning. Always been more of a wheel gun man. I've almost got 1000 rounds through it. They are a pleasure to shoot.

I'm down to 2 now (and having withdrawls). The Daly lives with me most of the time, the LLama is with me during yard work or other times when impact/water damage can occur.

My latest acquisition is this hard chrome Colt Special Combat Government in .38 Super that I bought to go with my early production two-tone SCG in .45ACP:

I paid $300 for it, just picked it up yesterday. It is one of the Lipsey's Sistema Colt 1927's.
The pistol was chromed by the prior owner, which is understandable now that I've read about the condition these were in originally. Eeverything works that I can see. There is no play in the slide to frame fit. The pistol passes all the function tests, and there is sharp rifling in the barrel, although there is also a little bit of pitting in two of the groves. There is still minor evidence of pitting on the frame under the chrome. It is a 1957 with matching numbers outside of the magazine. There is no crest or organization name on the pistol. I think I did OK on this deal. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
