Winchester Model 94
I picked up a (30-30) Winchester 94 over the weekend at a gun show. I think I got a good deal on it, but I have no idea what it's actual value is. Somebody help!
The serial number is in the 4.9 million range, which I've managed to learn puts it as a 1981 manufacture. All parts are original and functional. The bluing is probably 90%, with the only issues being some small "pin prick" type rust on the front sight hood and some larger areas of bluing wear on both sides of the receiver. It is not really rust on the receiver, but it's not wear either. It looks sort of like splotchy areas where the bluing is thin but I don't see any rust or even evidence of rust having been removed. Maybe just the preliminary stages of rust beginning. The stock is in almost perfect shape, with the original finish intact and only one minor ding (about the size of the end of a small flathead screwdriver) near the trigger. The grain on the buttstock is purty! It doesn't appear to have been fired much at all; the loading ramp doesn't show any wear and the rifling seems almost new.
So except for the minor rust on the front sight and the bluing damage on the receiver and the minor ding on the stock, it looks practically new to me. What is the book value of this rifle, and do you think that's what it would reasonably sell for right now? I'll post a picture of it this evening or tomorrow morning.
I don't plan to sell it; I'm just looking to make sure I didn't get screwed and I need a good value for insurance purposes. Thanks in advance for any help.
