A friend asked me to look this gun over to see if I thought it was safe to shoot and asked what I thought it was worth. I told him that I was not qualified to appraise this gun because it is out of my line.
It is a Remington Rolling block in 32/20 caliber with an octagom 28" barre. I was surpprised to find the bore in almost perfect condition because of it's age and the corrisive ammo that probably has been fired through it. The gun overall is in fine condition for it's age. No splits or cracks in the wood and the metal, while having lost it's blue, is not rusty or pitted, and the case colors are still visable on the receiver (barely). It has a Winchester rear sight that is stamped "smokless 50&100 yds" and then "32 W.S. -M 94" below that. It appears to have had a tang sight on it at one tome as there are 2 screws with heads on them srewed into the upper tang. The serial number on the lower tang is H44038. Any ideas as to the value of this little gun? I have made a composit photo, but I am no expert photographer. ![]()

Any patent dates on the barrel? Any other markings? Does it have a tang sight? It appears close to being a #3 High Powered rifle. A picture of the other side of the rifle receiver would also help.

I believe the rear sight has been replaced at some time. I'm pretty sure your friend has a Remington Model 1 1/2 Sporting rifle. Several thousand were made between 1888 and 1897. Condition is everything and since the Winchester sight was put on, this drops value accordingly. This rifle did not come with a tang sight. If one was added, it was either a special order or added afterwards.
Book states Good $950 Fair $400 Poor $100
