hello,
i just purchased a remington 597 "package" at bassproshops for $129 that included a 4X tasco scope. it is the standard synthetic stock and blued barrel. the scope came already mounted on the rifle and the remington box label specifies 20" barrel w/ scope. the barrel has no sights though. i expected that w/ the heavy barrel versions but not with the standard barrel. there are also no holes in the barrel either for sights. has anyone seen these packages that also had the iron sights? i would prefer to have both

Welcome to our nightmare!
Saddly fewer and fewer new rifles are being equiped with iron sights. This is especially dreadful on a .22 as ALL new shooters should start with irons and THEN go to a scope when they are able to hit their target repeatedly with iron sights. But this, unfortunately, is becoming a thing of the past. ![]()

youre right mtboomer,
i would have expected my latest rem 700 in '06 to be a slick barrel, but not a cheap plinker! didnt pay close enough attention when buying the 597 and 870 super mag they had on sale. would have been better off buying a regular 597 and throwing a scope on so id have both how difficult would it be to throw the sights on after the fact? could have a local smith do it if not too expensive |

Unfortunately, it would probably cast as much, or more, than you paid for the rifle.

nope, they don't make int, youhave to go to a gun shop and get the previous model look s kind of like a cross betweena ruger and a .40 carbine, all black , sythetic, with a flat top reciever, and sights.

okay thanks, the one i have is the standard version with the grey synthetic stock but has no sights. looks just like all the ones ive seen everywhere else as the standard rifle w/ sights.
wish i had bought one of those for 129 and then an inexpensive scope to throw on it since the scope it came with is a cheap tasco. would be glad to pay 150 for the rifle + scope seperate and have the sights rather than 130 for the rifle/scope but no sights. especially for a standard barrel model |
