Default Anschutz 54 Match

Just got back from the range with my new favorite rimfire. I fired eight different brands of ammo and the Anschutz 1413 likes two of them. Winchester Super X and Wolf Match Target. The higher priced Eley Match Xtra Plus never had a chance against these two.

Best 100 yd, 5 shot group was with Wolf Match Target ammo and measured .318"center to center. Not bad for a 40 year old .22 rimfire.

This one's a keeper.

Question Re: Anschutz 54 Match

Nice group from a nice looking rifle!

If a guy were looking to buy one of these 54s, are there things to look out for or any quirks to them?

I have only had this rifle a week so I still don't know alot about them except they are extremly accurate. Mine was well maintained by the previous owner.

Sweet looking rifle there Shooter! I may simply pine away into nothingness from pure envy. Anything made by Anschutz is top-notch, including their air guns. What can I say? They're German built.

Hard to beat a top of the line rifle, from a top of the line builder, like Anschutz. If you don't have a bore guide, for cleaning, get one.
From the man, himself, Dietert Anshhutz " You will not wear my barrel out, from shooting, but from cleaning, and poorly".
Keep the rod off the bore, with a guide, and your grandkids will enjoy the same accuracy you just spoke of, in this rifle!

I have a 1411 ordered, really looking forward to it. I bought it sight unseen, so I don't really know what I am getting. (I'm smart that way)

You will be happy with your new 1411 in about any condition. I know where there is a nice stock for sale is you need one. Parts and repair is no big deal. Plus, you can email Anschutz and they will send you an owner's manual.

Good luck on your new purchase and don't forget to post a range report.

Shooter45---I got the 1411 in yesterday. Very, Very pleased. My serial # is 19744. Is that older than yours? Doesn't really matter. Check this 5 at 50 of Wolf MT. Makes you wonder what high-dollar Eley would do. http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/873/anschutz5iz.jpg

Nice group. To find the date your rifle was built, look on the left side where the barrel mates to the receiver. On the barrel you will see two numbers. This is the year. Mine was made in '65.

Eley Match ammo groups really well in my rifle at 25 yds but Wolf Match Target ammo groups tighter at 50 yds.

Enjoy your new Anschutz and keep us posted on the range reports.

I have the bottom of the line (64 based action) Anshutz Shiloheutte in 22LR. It has a superb trigger and shoots well. It is the most accurate gun I own (it shoots 3/8 inch five shot groups, averaged over five groups, at 50 yds off the bench all day long).

While it was expensive compared to regular production 22 target guns like the CZ's or Ruger bolt actions, it was substantially less than any of the Anshutz series 54 guns. Anshutz makes fine guns, even at the bottom of their line!

I had a m54-1411 made in 1964. One annoying feature was they weren't made to eject the casings so I had pick each one out.

It was too barrel heavy to suit me.

I used a 1413 during the late '60s on my college rifle team. I put so many rounds through it I ringed the barrel. I now have a 1411 and a 1407 (wife's gun), but I haven't used them in a number of years. My rimfire fun guns are Marlin 39A/M, CZ 452 and Ruger 10/22.
