I own various pocket guns, including a Seacamo .32 and several NAA. I also consider a Smith and Wesson 642 with Crimson trace laser to be a fine pocket pistol. My old reliable is an NAA .22 magnum, that is fully engraved and has been with me all over the country. Even in San Fran. The constituion is national, knowing no boundries of borders.

One night at about 1 a.m. I was still awake sitting in my living room watching t.v. and knowing there has been a few break ins in the neighborhood I was listening to the outside sounds as well of cars coming and going when I heard some voices right outside my window. I did not recornize the voices and thought perhaps I best check into who was outside and find out what they were up to. I went to get my shoes on and by time I got out on my porch I seen a butt sticking out of my neighbors window and another person standing next to them helping them with a boost. Now I walked back inside my house with one thing in mind "RAGING BULL" 454 I skipped over the P-22 the 24/7 9mm any type of long gun I was focused on the 454 with the 8 3/8 inch barrel. Now when I walked out and came up behind them I hit the light right on the one standing by the window still waiting to get in. They instantly when to there knees not knowing who or where exactly I was. The one in the window saw clearly what was in my right hand and yelled out my name, it turns out my neighbor locked himself out of his house and thought he would sneak thru the window to get back in. Now the gun was never pointed at anyone for I had no reason to make a shot but as my neighbor said to me the next day when he seen the cannon at my right side he near messed his pants. Now would he have done the same if I was standing there with the little P-22 in my hand maybe but we will never know for sure since my neighbor now comes and lets me know when he is out prowling in his yard in the middle of the night. I watch out for my neighbor as he watches out for me.

Interesting story, MnHunter. But my lord, man, a .454? That hand cannon is enough gun to go hunting a tyrannasaurus, much less humans! In the situation you describe, I think I would have gone for a shotgun rather than any pistol or revolver. Small, easily concealable pistols and revolvers have their place, but I agree, in the incident you describe I too would want something a bit more potent . . . just not quite that potent!

I like my Kel Tec .32 acp for my mouse gun and back up to my big bore handguns. I sometimes use my Kel Tec for a small pocket gun when I can't carry a big bore with me. It is better to have something, even a mouse gun, than nothing at all. If I can get close to you and put a .32 acp in one of your eyes, I can just about guarantee that you're going to have a bad day from the on.

As a retiree part of my daily regime is a walk of about 5 miles. I try to be in a warm clime so with athletic shorts and a t-shirt. I carry a NAA 22 mag and pepper spray as thats all I can manage in that attire. When I am wearing regular shorts or jeans I pocket carry an SP101 in 357 mag in a Simply Rugged pocket protector. I will use a belt holster in cooler weather with a coverning garment.

PS don't they make a briefcase that has a handgun compartment?

I am not a big fan of mouse guns even though I carry one daily as I start thinking what happens if I get into a situation where I'm forced to draw and use it and the other person has a 9mm or bigger.

I have three "mouse guns". All in 25 acp.

1. Colt Jr. (US made)

2. 1903 mod Colt

3. Baby Browning

They are all backed up by a 1911 never to far away.

Bigger is better, whenever possible. But, it isn't always, so I carry a .38 snub or a (God forgive me!) .22 auto every now and then.

I have a friend who has often expressed the opinion that a .22 is a fine gun to have with one, and used properly and at close range, the attacker will be dead in five hours or so, absent adequate medical attention or a gutshot (in which case the time frame is more like three days).

He will have killed you during those five hours, however.

I'm with the guy who said anything less than a .38 special is not enough; my "party gun" is a Kahr PM9, with Fed. Prem. Hydrashock 124 gr. +P HST in the chamber. I am thinking about getting a .22LR revolver, but that's for when I'm crawling around under the house fixing stuff and happen to encounter snakes & rodents, and for my wife and kids to kill paper with.

Any recommendations on a nice 4" barrel, medium or small frame, .22lr revolver (one that's still in production)?

I made the decision that where I go on a regular basis, my P3AT is a suitable choice. When I go out of my area, I take the P3AT and another, larger pistol. If I went to one of our large cities, I would want a fully armed SWAT team with me at all times.

One size does not fit all. No one but you knows what the threat level is in your home area or what you wear. It's great that we have so much choice in firearms, and it very helpful to have plenty of advice available, but no one but you can or should choose your own personal carry.

If used properly, a .22lr will kill a human quite handily. It does not take a lot of brain trauma to make a person "check out."

as of now i dont have a ccw, but am planning on taking the course and getting one this summer. a couple buddies from church and i are going to do it at the same time. right now i have a glock 22, 40 cal, and a smith & wesson 5 screw 38. i'll probably carry the glock. if/when i get an naa revolver, i'll carry that all the time probably and drop the glock unless clothing permits. i carry around the house/farm just for the fun of it and it's annoying to me personally. i have a galco cop 3 slot holster, and a good stiff belt. i live in a small kentucky town... not really small @ 30,000 people, but there isnt a lot of violent crime compared to a major city. maybe i'll get me one of them nice keltek p32's or something along that lines. i had once a colt junior 25 auto once. it was pretty nice, a friend has it and i could get it back if i wanted.

The NRA advises that often the display of a firearm is enough to end a confrontation. If you don't have to have a gun battle with an armed attacker, the mouse gun would be enough. If not, it's still better than a sharp stick.

I've actually been thinking a Kel-Tec .380 would be perfect to fit in my leathers when I ride my motorcycle around, and keep the P229 in my tankbag.

Hey, I once shot a mouse in my kitchen with a .38 spl, so is that a mouse gun?

Also know that I once met a very professional armed person, of the highest level of training and proficiency and guess what he carried? .380 Colt Mustang with mixed ball and HPs.

Hmm, back in my mis-spent college days, my room mate and I would shoot cockroaches with .22 cal 'shot' cartridges. Would that have made our pistols "Roach-guns"?

Those .22 shotshells are also quite effective (at close range) on small water snakes.

I personally think that "mouse guns" serve a very useful purpose.
Carrying a .380 or .45 either one is a compromise to the 12 gauge I would like to carry most of the time...
