Default Sword

Ok, I dont know beans about swords, Im a gun collector. I recently was given a sword that was in a fire. No history available. I can find absolutely no markings on it except where it looks like someone scribed their DL # at the hilt of the blade and also on the scabbard. The blade looks to be plated as it is dammaged where the fire was hottest. I can supply pics if anyone out there can help me.
