Re: Firearms Discipline, an alternative to Liberal Gun Control
Bernie, WAKE UP!!!
This is the 21st century, we are chasing 'Tacticals', with armored vehicles, in Iraq and Afghanistan, with slow progress, and lots of wounded, to show for our 'High tech' approach to an almost archaic adversary!
HOW, I gotta ask, are you gonna reconcile two completely different approaches to law, in a short time?
The UCMJ is an oxymoron, of the highest level, like "Military Intelligence"!
It is anything but uniform, in that, if your daddy was a West Pointer, different rules apply, and, say you got Gohnorrea (sp?) as an officer, it was "non specific uretheritis", but, as an enlisted man, an "STD", requireing altogether different (Read this, an Art 15 proceeding) legal handling!
Should question the "J" word, consider that exercising your first amendment right to freedom of speech, in the military, easily could net you the same results, or worse.
Understand this; my opinion is based on first hand experience; I served, and proudly, even then knowing that the rights I served, to protect, were in part denied me, while serving.
The two legal forms are in no way compatible, as they are based on entirely different needs, and they NEVER will compromise, for the same reason.
Let me offer a different definition of "Firearm Discipline".
Here, in Texas, the use of Lethal Force falls under our Penal code, and, to summarize, is justified to prevent the commission of a Felony, or, when one is met with such force as a reasonable person might judge to be able to cause severe bodily harm, or death, to himself, or another. Pretty clear, to me!
Quit jerking the LEO's around, and adopt such simple terms for THEIR use of Leathal Force, and train them to 'Shoot 'til the threat goes away'.
When "Polite Society" begins to realize that their lives are made better by the absence of 'Bad Actors', through the process of mortality, not only will the "gun control" bills, and speeches, be reduced, but so will local taxes, since the courts will have less costly cases to try!
My personal feeling is that a weapon ought to be like a kiss; for special moments, which neither of us can ever forget! If you ever have occasion to see my personal weapons, there are but two options, since I am a sensitive kind of guy; Cease resistance, or, Die.
I am sincere in this belief; and, carry 24/7; You will never know it, if you do what is right. Cross that line, and I believe you are the fair game of any armed citizen in this land.
Arms control is reliably hitting your target!
Don't start no s**t and there won't be none, Terry
