Default Springfield Champion Receiver.

I'm new to the forum and I need instruction. I recently picked up a new Springfield GI Champion. I got it at a good price with the intention of upgrading it myself. My question is does the receiver disassemble the same as a Colt 1911? My first changes will be the hammer, grip safety, and thumb safety. Sights have been taken care of. Anyone that has been down this road that wants to offer advice please feel free to do so. Thanks!

Red face Re: Springfield Champion Receiver.

I recently changed a "loaded" Springfield 'round' hammer to a 1911A1 spur hammer, combi safety to a standard 1911A1 left side standard safety, beaver tail grip safety to a standard grip safety (because of the spur type hammer) and the internal locking main spring straight housing to the old style 1911A1 rounded main spring housing.

Everything fit without problem if this answers your question and yes partial disassembly in the area you are talking about seems to be the same.
