Hi everyone, I've got my rifles working great with the lower std. ammo like Lapua, Eley, etc. but I'm hoping some of you can eliminate alot of research and trials with your previous expierience. I'm looking for some higher velocity ammo that does well out to 100 yrds or so. My rifles have good barrels, triggers etc. Thanking you in advance, Joe

You already shooting some of the most accurate 22 ammo available.
As velocity increases accuracy decreases. You will have use trial and error of differant brands to find which your rifle(s) likes best out to 100 yards. I've got one that likes S&B better than any other HV

Joseph, .22WRF speaks the truth. To elaborate, only briefly, think about a 'sonic boom', the shockwave sent into the air when an aircraft goes thru the speed of sound. It shakes windows, etc, on the ground, and shakes the aircraft, like an earthquake, in the air.
Higher than 1070 or so fps ammo mmust go thru this process twice; once in the barrel, accelerating, again, downrange, decellerating. In Metric terms, this means all ammo in excess of about 320 MPS, so, think, before you wish! There exists no round, with supersonic velocity, with the accuracy of a sub-sonic equivalent.

For a faster bullet and accuracy too go with the 17HMR I have one, a H&R SS that I stole and that thing will shoot at 140 yards almost as well as my target 22 long rifle will at fifty, almost I said. it will only make two holes out of five shots.
Before long I hope to get all five on paper at 140 Ron

.22's are legendary in how finicky they can be. What works in one rifle can be a dud in the next. You can get three guys together with 10-22's and find they are using three different brands of ammo to get good results.
If you're dead set on trying some high velocity ammo, Ive had good luck with CCI Velociter in a couple of my guns.

if you are looking for fast and accurate22 ammo, then Aguilas are the way to go. they are an Eley products/parts, assembled in mexico. they are super accurate, but the fastest of all the 22 rounds is their hyper round. Lots of ouchy, but i cant get it to group under an inch at 50 yds.

I`m not so sure speed equats to less accuracy and that to depends on what you are looking for. I agree the 17HMR has changed the rules and at 2600FPS it is smoking hot with laser like accuracy and will beat and AND I mean ANY 22RF at any distance. Though not a fan of the 17HM2,I guess it will have followers too. High speed 22RF works very well in my older longer barreled guns, 24 and 26 inch barrels. I have a Mossberg with a 26 inch barrel that will group under an inch at 100 yards and use it on crows out to 165 yards and it makes a big hole. It likes the all hated CCI Stingers. I have had great luck with these and in 10/22`s also, though not stock. Most folks hate them, not me. I also like the Remington Premier 22Mag and its 33 grainer....EXPLOSIVE!! But have just finished a Ruger 77/22 Mag-converted to 17HMR. No time to shoot it yet, GM fluted stainless 20 inch barrel with perfect headspacing, 10 oz Jard trigger and custom stock, 32X scope almost touching the barrel......well a 32nd is as close as it gets without milling the mounts.....lol
Been staring at it for months......but no time to shoot it !!!!! LTS |
