I had a very odd day today. I went over to Tulsa and actually found an apartment for rent at a darn cheap price in what looked to be a half way normal neighborhood.
They were very anal about financial data...they wanted a copy of my 1099...which is an irs form for people working as privated contractors. I operated in 07 as a private contractor so FRED.... wouldn't have to pay worker comp insurance...or pay matching funds and all that stuff. But thats another story for another day. Anyway... the wanted a copy of the 1099 for verification of past wages and they wanted my drivers liscense number and social security number to do a.....BACKGROUND CHECK.....yeay whooopie. They had me sign a paper saying that i was not a convicted fellon or a sex offender... ok. I get back this evening and find out from Fred that they called and asked him about some apartment that i supposedly rented in Omaha Nebraska in 1998? Well, thats not possible because i've been in NW Arkansas for the last 16 years. I am originally from omaha and did rent an apartment in 1990 or there about... which is a full 8 years before this supposed rental in 1998? I got back here late so i will have to call the lady tomorrow and ask her what this is about? I don't know if its this supposed background check thing or some computer check they run in addition to the background check... who knows? But....whats buzzing through my head at this moment is a little bit of concern that somebody is using my information....or identiy to conduct their business with. I doubt that an illegal mexican could use my last name very successfully to tell you the truth.... but maybe not a mexican? Maybe its a qlitch in whatever system they are using? But supposedly what the lady at the apartment complex told Fred was that they used my name and social security number.... so that sounds like identity theift to me any day of the week???????Willy....i would love to hear your opinion on this one!!!!! I'm sitting here thinking that i need to get a copy of my credit report and have a look at it. I've been in NW Arkansas for the last 16 years and have had essentially no credit activity whatsoever during that time....no checking account or credit cards...no debit cards...no gass cards...NADA nothing. NO STINKING OUTHOUSE EITHER!!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh well, my back porch...does that count? Hey, the rain washes it away eventually.... Just not when its a hot dry summer though... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any opinions on this type of subject would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!! mike gn

Could be a clerical error. 1998 as opposed to 1990 - two keys apart. Maybe? I've gone through 4 different landlords and have had to come up with some interesting references but never a tax document. Since they're asking about Omaha and you had an apartment in Omaha - it might just be a typo and they could've also read it wrong. Trust me, if the clerk of court can enter a felony where it's supposed to be a misdemeanor - they can enter a 0 for and 8. Not to jack your post but that's what I found out today. A major, major typo. I have a misdemeanor and it was entered as a felony. Not good. No wonder I couldn't get a job. Hope it works out for ya.

JustDoug.... thread drift is my middle name!!!!
And anyone who can pull a good job of it has my respect.... ![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously though... the more i think about it...i've heard that omaha has a big illegal alien problem...and i wonder if one of the places i rented at all them years ago didn't use MY INFO from back then to do whatever paperwork that would be necessary to make it look like an american citizen was renting the apartment...when in actuality they might be renting to an illegal alien. Some of the apartments i had back then were in bad parts of town and one landlord even got himself arrested for making deals with the welfare single moms renting from him...sex in place of rent money. My wife and i at the time were watching tv and whola....guess who was on tv being charged with multiple folonies for doing that....OUR LANDLORD. ![]() 8 single welfare mommas were accusing him of doing it. One gal in our building. To me she was credible and i believe her story. Plus the jerk went into her apartment and got all her stuff and locked it up in one of the garages. She was terrified of him.... Lincoln Blvd in Omaha Nebraska.... once upon a time a glorious neighborhood with 3 story homes that had hardwood trim throughout them....now slums. Actually 20 years ago..slums... by now who knows what? ![]()

Mike: I read your pm and sent a pm back I think. Let me know if you got that. The answer is a credit report and an ongoing credit monitoring service with e-mail alerts to you if any activity is reported to your credit. And believe me,any activity will be reported to your report these days. Like Doug says,it probably is a typo but you need to check to be sure. I like (and use) creditexpert.com. I have used them for many years. I would sign up for the service and I think you get a free credit report to start. It makes for really good reading to see what the financial world has on us.

You are entitled to one free credit report per year from each of the three credit reporting companies. To get it, go to www.annualcreditreport.com
You can check all three at once, or you can space them out. I know several folks who check a different company every four months, so that each company rotates once a year.
