We do have what some call the best military in the world. In truth, we have the most expensive and thus, the most wonder weapons.
As things are turning out in the "Sandbox", It is the way of life that makes a nation tough, not the amount of wonder weapons you can buy.
You cannot take a Sarah brady Wefare wimp, put him through 8 weeks of training, habd him a .22 cal. poodle shooter that is only good for killing unarmed civilians, and expect to win an M-16 vs AK battle.
The enemy is adapting to this and as long as there is no end, the enemy is winning. Our reliance on wonder weapons has us killing the enemy with a $50,000 smart bomb when a $0.05 bullet could have done the job.
This makes us vulnerable on our "Economic flank".
Wonder weapons have wonder price tags. As we outsource all of our real jobs overseas, we are becomming a third world economic power. At the going rate, we will no longer be able to afford or even operate our wonder weapons. Pat Buchanan said it best "If the ability to wage war anywhere on the planet defines an empire, avoiding one defines keeping it."

two of the best lines from the movie full metal jacket were said by Animal mother. When asked what should we do in Vietnam, first answer was, "well, i think we should win." About how to win he said, " if they give us some more guys over here, and bomb the hell outta the north, they'll probably just give up."
we need to encircle a couple of cities over there, and drop leaflets, saying if you are a woman or girl, or any male child under 15, get out. You have 48 hrs.
At 48 plus 01 seconds, a couple of old b-52 runs to flatten the city. then go to the next town, with leaflets, saying hand over your suspect terrorists, or you have 24 hrs. Lather, rinse, repeat. Our troubles over there would end in about 2 months.
yes we will suffer worldwide political condemnation, and yu.n. catterwalling, and all kinds of threats, etc. Oh , wait a minute, we allready get all that.
Too bad, we are the ones turning blood and treasure, we will do what we have to do.

Are we a super power?
no more so then half the other nations in the world
The big difference is that we have a few more supplies then the other nations, for now!
This great country of ours has become a joke we have the power and the resources to stay on top but have let the likes of the ACLU and others run our country in to the ground. There will be a civil war again in this country and it will be between the "HAVES and THE HAVES NOT"
in simple English the next civil war will be about race, religion, rich, poor, hungry city folks, simple country folks, all while other countries are trying to get a foot hold on our soil.
Then we will wish that we had taken a stronger stand against the likes of the ACLU.
ARE WE A SUPER POWER?
Y'all come on down to my house and you will think so

Please state your experiences with this! With the weapons we now have, that would be impossible!

And if the city doesn't respond? You advocate the wholsale slaughter of an entire poulation? This makes an advocate of the same evil they are doing to us. There are not enogh troops to encircle any large city, ther are not enough wannabes eager for trigger time to send over there to have enough troops. There is not enough money in the treasury to pay for all of the ordinance you want to dump. And if you suceed, you will be the very evil empire I joined the military to oppose.

Wishfull thinking, but lets not strive for world empire to begin with and then we won;lt have to wory aboyut the logistics involved with imposing our godless ways upon other nations.

If we get the wrong people angry, we will have our loans and bond recalled and we will be intantly bankrupted. Every time you tank up your SUV, you put money into the enmies pockets, every time you buy something made in China, you attack our economic flank. If you are now advocating the wiping out of entire cities that refuse to kneel to us, don.t cry when we get a sutcase nuke in ours. Contrary to what chickenhawks and neocons claim, the only reason the enemy has not pulled another 9-11 is because they are waiting for us to invade more nations and impose our godless ways upon them. Once we do enough of what we are currently doing, the wold will cheer at every 9-11 style attack we get heaped upon us. We have taken the bait and are playing into the enemies hands.

The enemies philosophy is "We will not drive you out! We will take you in! And slowly digest you over years."

China is just ONE(Japan another)of the big holders of our bonds. A country that can't go to war without foreigners financing it and fears small counties halfway around the world is not a superpower. A lot of neo-cons think because we have some fancy weapons and nukes we are a superpower. Not so. We can't handle Iraq. Is that why bush and his admin. talk of nuking Iran? If we nuke Iran we will be considered the lowest in the world. We are close to that now.And a country that the majority of the world is opposed, is not a super power.

Back when I was serving dring the Cold War, the Soviet Union was the Goliath of the world and we were playing the part of David standing up to the giant. We were outnumbered 3, 4, and even 5 to one on every front.
Now, we are the Goliath trying to throw our weight around and the rest of the world is taking on the role of David.
