Military and policemans are regulated by other rules.

Para P16/40 (converted to a 10mm)...
At times, a SA Professional in .45ACP...
Rarely, a XD .45ACP Tactical or an H&K USP Tactical during LEO training...

Back-up either a Kahr K40 or H&K P7 always...

You asked "What's your daily packin' iron?"
I see a lot of nice 1911's and revolvers all in nice leather with extra mags also in leather.
In my opinion there a 2 modes of CCW, 1) offensive 2) defensive.
All of the holster & extra mags are offensive (use is very possible) setups.
A Colt Mustang or Keltec 3AT in a back pocket holster is a defensive (used to get away) setups.
You first must decide how much firepower you can reasonably concile.

Walther P99 in 9x19 loaded with 124gr HydraShoks. It goes with me everywhere legally allowed

Most 1911 designs seem a tad bit too heavy for me, although they do seem to fit my hands really well. I have small hands, so it's amazing that the large 1911s fit me at all.

I generally always carry when I'm out on the farm. Keep her in a backpack when I travel. Even though I prefer the shootability of my 1911's, the gun that stays with me is my SA XD 40cal. in Galco belt holster.
