Default Walmart Guns

I have shopping online for various rufles, Ruger 99/44, 96/44, mini-30, mini14, marlin lever .357 and a couple of others. Walmart has prices significantly lower than anything on line including used guns. Are not the Walmart guns the same quality that are found in other stores???

Welcome Ex
They are the same but bigger company's naturally mean lower price. Allthou I am a fan of supporting the local gun shops Wal-Mart hasn't had that much bad publicity gun wise
By the way Ruger's Mini's are great along with Marlin's lever's

I have several Marlin Lever Action Guns. When I was growing up, in the late thirties and forties, they were the only thing that was compatible for southpaws. Even now, my favorite high powered rifle is a Lever Action Browning BLR Lightning in .30-06.

Wal*Mart carries the same rifles that others have but the selection is usually only one or two popular calibres. Their prices are lower due to volume buying and they serve a purpose in areas where there is not a good local gunshop and gunsmith.

We were always fortunate to live where a good gunsmith was nearby.

i was told by a gunsmith friend of mine that Remington would make a production run just for these big retailers and the fit and finish standards might not be the same. better wood on other units, etc. not sure how true, never compared guns.

I have purchased 3 guns from WalMart . Contrary to the popular myth , they
are not inferior in quality . Gunshop owners like to tell you that they are cuz they are getting their butt kicked .

Makes sense, but ol' Walmart is making a killing comeing and going, you cant blame the small gunshop owner for wanting to make a living.

I'll continue to support the small gunshop guy and buy my coffee at Walmart.

I don't blame a guy for wanting to make a living . Just do it by giving me better service at a FAIR price . Lies and scare tactics are a turn off . It tells me something about a persons character .

Couple of years ago my wife bought me a Mini 14 at WallyWorld. It was a good deal less than anywhere alse around. It's functioned flawlssly and there's absolutely no difference between mine and one you buy at a lgs. As has been said over and over; it's Wally's buying power that keeps prices down. I've got a lgs about 30 miles from me where I do most all of my business now. He's fair, reasonable, not adverse to a trade now & then, and just all around "good folks." Knows his business and a good place to shoot the breeze as well as buy.

Well here is my 2cents on this.
I have bought several guns from wally world. I have had no problems with them what so ever. Resently I was looking for a bow. I went to the local shops first. Their lowest priced bow was $450. And that was with nothing. Wally World had a Bear. SO I said heck I will start with it at under $200. Now I did buy my arrows from the local shop and some other stuff from them. And I think that it chapped their a$$ that I did not buy from them. But if they were willing to deal with me not wanting to spend $1000 in their shop compared to $200 at wally world, $100 on ebay, and $150 at their shop. I am completly set up (when it all gets here) for what they wanted in just a empty bow.

Now I do support the local gun shops when it comes to powder, primers, and such.

I'm with ya 100% I'm glad I dont have to deal with such nonsense. If these kind of people would "wake up", they would find alot of people willing to support them to the death...I've seen it, those "know it alls" who tell you to "take a number" when you walk in the door and act like they are doing you a favor when they hand you a wore out firearm to look at. Yes sir, if I had to deal with that mess I'd be looking towards Walmart too. Fortunately I've found and made friends with some super stand-up guys around here and if I have 2.00 to spend on firearm related products it's going to them, I dont care if they have to order what I need.

Nope. I also forgot to add I do all my buisness when it comes to transfer of firearms with the locals. I don't mind a guy trying to pay his light bill on what he sells. But I think that a price difference of 30% is unreasonable.

30% is kinda high on guns. But the going rate on bicycles when I worked at a bike shop a few years ago was 70%

Well I assumed he meant a price difference of 30% between the gun shop guy and Walmart.

well, i have a "local" guy i buy from.... i say local bc he's 18 miles away. i cant stand our wally world!! they arent the sharpest tools in the shed when it comes to firearms. i'd actually rather buy my firearms from our local kmart & their dept. is smaller (if i dont buy it from the local guy.)

i guess it just depends on who's running that dept. in wally world. i've had far better service out of kmart, than walmart could ever dream of...

the last time i attempted to buy a hunting rifle from walmart.. i argued w/ the guy until i finally just walked away. i wanted a 270 & he kept trying to sell me a 243. he wouldnt believe me that it wasnt a 270, even tho the barrel was stamped 243. scary place i tell you.....

One other thing I hate about the local guys is most of them I had to deal with thought that the guns I have are junk compared to theirs. And they always want you to buy the latest gun. I fell for that one once. When the rifle turn out not able to hit the broad side of a barn, he said thanks for the info. "I am willing to take it in on trade, but for only 50% of what you paid for it." The gun had no marks and only 30rnds through it. These are just a few of my pet peives when it comes to some of the locals.

I about forgot there was one other thing that I hate. I was at a local shop looking at some used guns. I asked if I could check the trigger on a remington 30-06. Lets just say it is a good thing I always do a chamber check for a round. (yes it was loaded)

Rosie, the K-Mart in Jasper, Alabama went out of the gun business back in the early or mid-nineties and we were told it was a total corporate decision.....

I am surprised to hear about that. Have they changed their mind and gone back into guns again??????
