Let me start off by saying hello to everyone here, as I am new to this forum and I am not sure if this question is in the right section. Anyway, I have a quick question regarding the intrafamilia transfer. I recently finished an intra-familia transfer with a firearm my mother had. I am 19 years old and live in california. I got the letter back in the mail saying "you are now elligible to obtain and keep firearms". My question is this, can I now go to a gun store and buy a handgun now that I legally own one? Thank you for your help.

Your best bet would be to ask your local law enforcement this question, since firearm laws are different from one state to the next.
However, most states require you to be age 21 before you can purchase a handgun, and I would venture to guess that that would be the case in California.

Welcome Fict10n.
In California, to purchase a handgun, you must take a Handgun Safety Certification test. It is administered by most FFL's. You also have to be 21 in Kal. to buy a handgun. Long guns are exempt from the certificate. 18 to buy Long guns. There are exceptions to Family transfers. You're best off consulting a local FFL. Merry Christmas ![]()
