Default 1911 owners come on in

was reading over at the sig forum the thread "What is the worst pistol you ever owned?"

a couple stuck in my head..one was the Kimbers...i dont know much about them except i shot one at the range..no prbs that remember..they look nice thats for sure and the price isnt too bad..but lots of people complained about them

next was the paro ord ..there again they look like great guns, i like the hi cap 45 mags, which is a major plus..but there again i saw them pop up about every page with a complaint.

also a few complaints..very few that is was the springfields

these actually are my choices for a 1911..and i found it dissappointing that all 3 got some bad press...with the springfield being the one with the fewest complaints ..para second and kimber having the most complaints

thougts???

I don't know who is complaining over there, but Kimbers and Springfields are highly regarded over here. Just sift through this forum and see. I do not own a Kimber, but I do have a Springfield V10 and love it, never had a problem.

I do not like Para's because I have small hands and the Para is too wide for me.

Good luck, but you can't go wrong with what I wrote.

Maybe the guys bashing the Kimbers and Springfields just can't handle a 1911. This pic is of my Kimber Custom Target 1911 in .45 acp. The target is a 3" dot and was shot at a distance of 50 yards. Twenty rounds fired and all hit the target. I've owned Springfields that will do almost as good with a little work. Para's need alot of work to be accurate pistols but will hold a good group afterward.

Let 'um bash away. I have never personally seen a Sig do better.

A few of us know better.

I have a couple of Para-Ords in 45 ACP and I like them just fine. Both of mine are single-stacks.

I, too, have seen the complaints about Kimber. I have a Pro Carry ll that I love. Any gun will seem to have people that hate them but the number of proponents far outnumber them.

I have a Kimber TLE II. Never had a problem. Great gun
as far as I'm concerned.

I really like the Springfields but I am partial to Springfields. So my .02 don't count

I don't know if "a few complaints" for each of them would qualify any for the title of "the worst pistol you've ever owned."

Also, what are the specific complaints? One person might complain that a grip is too big, another too small. Someone might say that one is too heavy... All of these are opinions depending on peoples preferences. A firearm with repeated FTF or FTE would be a valid complaint.

I have a loaded hi cap Springfield 1911 that I really like to shoot. It's been very dependable with no issues.I will change the sights at some point though
because Ifind them small compare to other pistols. My hands are large enough
to accomindate the wide grip for double stacked magazine.

I know several Kimber and Springfield owners, and all of 'em like their guns.

I've shot both Kimbers & Springfields, and both shoot just fine.

If you like 1911's, know how to shoot them, and are comfortable with the recoil, then either a Kimber or Springfield will be fine for you.

Worst pistol I ever owned was a (gasp) 1911. A older Llama 1911. Wouldn't ramp consistantly, stovepiped frequently, and an all-around pain in the a$$!

The guy that has it now thinks it's the Cat's Meow. Good for him.

I think Al Mount hit the nail on the head.
My Para P1640 has been a great pistol & better since I put in a Schuman barrel & Novak sight.
Just breaking in a P1445, & the only complaint is the thumb safety is too skinny.
I wanted a Springfield Hi-Cap, but not in Kaliforny!

A few years I used a Para-Ordnance P-16 built by Ken Hallock in IPSC Ltd. class. Briley ramped barrel, Bo-Mar adj rear sight, Videcki trigger, etc. It was a very accurate 1911. Someone offered me alot of cash for that pistol and I let them have it. I had planned to break out my Wilson Combat super grade to finish out the season. I never got the Wilson out of the vault. I used one of my Kimbers instead.

Shooter's Arms Manufacturing (SAM) made in the Phillipines. Paid $300 and change for it new. Ran nearly 300 rounds through it without cleaning - no jams, no stoppages, no problems! It beat out a new P-14 that had 2 stovepipes in that same 300 rounds!

I had a beautiful little Llama in .45 auto, I loved it......

until I fired a few rounds thru it.........

It was at that point I realized this firearm was better suited to be a "rain guage",

(due to frequent stove pipes).....

than a weapon for self protection....
