Hey, welcome Pops!
But what is this, a CANADIAN using and loving a US made SAVAGE, while this AMERICAN is purring over his Canadian LONG BRANCH????? What's wrong with this picture? Oh well, I guess it's the neighborly thing.... ![]()

I have an American made Savage also, POPS. It's an excellent and hightly accurate rifle, especially after I got rid of that heavy military stock.

Nicely machined too. The Savage is smooth. I like the heavy stock though.

I have two Faz No 4s, one a WWII vintage that was scrubbed and FTRd to a Mk 1/2 and one a '53 Mk 2. I also have a Mk III from 1913 that was FRd at Ishapore in '32 but miraculously avoided the Ishy screw. A '42 Savage is on the way, sportered but salvageable.

mine is a No.4 Mk.1(F) 10/48 PF48XXX: .303 british, united kingdom, IAC Alex VA.
Vintage, unscathed, and still has the brass buttplate and micrometer adjustable flip up aperture with battle aperture. i gave it a trigger job and feed it handloads. and it will consistently shoot 1 1/4" groups at 100 yds... for those of you who have a no.4 mk.1 needing unsporterization, i happen to have a spare stock. no hardware, and its pretty beat up( looks like its been in a war) but its free to a loving home...

Ishapore No1 MK3 in .303. I removed the wire wrap and the bolt through the stock. It shoots well, but I prefer my M38.

I have a Longbranch No4Mk1 made in 1943. It's been FTR'd at least once.
I also have an Ishapore 2a No1 Mk3 that doesn't look like much but it has a really nice (perfect) bore and shoots really good. pickenup, Yes, the numbers can match if the gun is original. My No4 Mk1 has all matching numbers except the bolt and magazine. My Ishapore matches all the way through including the magazine. Joe |

I really hate to show my ignorance, but where do you find the manufacturer on them? I have a SMLE Mk III but I don't know where it was made!

I am ashamed to admit despite owning several SMLEs and No4s in the past I dont have one at the moment, though after seeing your pics I think I may go rifle shopping. I could PX my AA (Like a No5 jungle carbine) in 7.62 Russian. Never really liked the cartridge anyway.

![]() I am tempted to trade my 7.62 Russian for a No4, though will hang on to that Mauser as long as I can. It is very accurate and has given me results I, and others can hardly believe. Its without doubt the most accurate rifle I have ever owned, a diamond.
