So after one full year, I do believe S&W has stolen my gun.
I had a P22, it needed a California retrofit. I sent it in, they still have it. Does anyone have any suggestions? They wont send it back, they wont give me my money back . . . . What should I do? Beagle

Clarification please... A) Walther acknowledges that they have it and won't give it back to you, or B) Walther denies ever receiving it? If he answer is "A", what is their stated reason for not sending it back to you? If the answer is "B", do you have a shipping receipt showing proof of delivery? This episode sounds unlike Walther's typical customer service. Maybe this is a State of California plot to confiscate all legal weapons from law abiding citizens (you know they're dying to). They admit to it. They talk to me now and then. I got the guys direct line so I dont have to wait for a rep. But the barrel was damaged. Therefore they want me to buy a new barrel so they can install it and glue the tip on (california retrofit)
I think since it was their mistake to sell me an illegal gun in Cali, they should do the retrofit for free of give me my money back. They are trying to cover themselves from the state. (Cali was after them for releasing the gun to the public before the yearly list of legal guns came out ) So I guess my beef is that I have to pay for their mistake. Since the outer sleave of the barrel is scuffed, I have to buy a new one in order for them to fit it and send it back. BTW, the other barrel I payed extra $$$ for is now USELESS!!! ( I bought both the 3.4" and 5") I will say they keep in touch with me every few months. They are good at that. But I miss my P22. Everyone in this forum knows how much I loved that thing. |

I'm I glad I don't live there anymore. What does that mean, "glue the tip on"? What are the gun laws in CA? |

Given what you've said, rgl, and were it me in the same position, I would see how they respond to a lawsuit for breach of contract or any of several other causes of action.

Good advice, Pistol. I believe that if legal counsel contacted them, it would quickly jump off dead centre!!!!!
It goes without saying, however, that this shouldn't be necessary, but all too often, it is the only way. ![]()

However, it might be fun to argue in a CA court that if California's absurd law has any validity in the first place, then depriving the owner of a "safely engineered" weapon in a timely fashion is required under that law.

The only piece I can add here is what I know of why the P22 as it originally designed is the problem in the great state of CA.
The barrel is threaded at the end. The last I heard in CA, that makes it an assault weapon. Granted, that was from an article I read quite a while back. I also remember the article as stating that the gun was approved by CA, then once it in the market, the approval was taken away. DISCLAIMER: I am relying on my memory here, which is like a steel trap. One that is rusted shut, but a steel trap.

Well here's another suggestion if those don't work...
Step 1....MOVE to a state that is sane. STEP 2...Tell Walther you don't need the Kalifornia crap now so please just put it back the way it was... Problem SOLVED! ![]()

I'd go the route Pistolen and Marlin mentioned.

Don't worry, Pat, I practiced what I preach!
New York was a great place to grow up and hunt and fish, but I'm EVER so thankful I got transferred out so I got to experience life in the "Real World...." And after raising my kids in Indiana, I preach that to the heavens.....MOVE. It will be the BEST life choice you will ever make. And as for the cop out, "I'm going to stay and fight for change," the time for THAT is long gone, you've lost. You just are too stubborn or lazy or "comfortable" to admit it. Just the fact you're STAYING and paying their ever higher TAXES encourages the b@st@rds. And you are arguing on THEIR terms using THEIR definitions, aren't you? Soon you will be arguing the "merits" of just exactly WHAT "electronic safety device" you will have to "retrofit" to your 1911 to keep it "legal," and claiming a VICTORY when you get them to mandate the $750 one instead of the $1000 one.... The BEST way to fight is to MOVE. When the state is depopulated and bankrupt, it will make the contrasts with the areas and states that are BOOMING that much more stark. Plus the growing population in your NEW state will be mostly likeminded with you, with MORE representatives in Congress, while the flaming lib states LOSE polulation and representation.... And it's in our BLOOD. It's our HERITAGE. When "Kentuck" became too "populated with city folk," even Dan't Boone moved...in his EIGHTIES....Our anscestors ALL moved to GET here. We CANNOT be afraid to make the right decision, even tough ones like MOVING, when it comes to our futures and our freedoms, for ourselves OR our families. I am DEAD serious....Stop being more loyal to your "holler," your home or Farm, or town or state, and be loyal to saving the UNITED STATES. You CAN find another "home," one that you just MIGHT, actually, probably WILL love MORE than the one you left, but once the USA is gone, we'll ALL be slaves once again.....

Walther themselves sold you the gun? I'm guessing a dealer out there in Kommieland did. It would uthe resposability of the dealer to know what's legal before the sale. Regarding the issue with the factory, is the damage thier fault? If so, yes they should fix it on thier dime. If it's the users fault for the damage (scuff) it's on the owner's hands to pay for any repairs. Sorry if I sound indiffernt but with these types of posts, we're only getting one side of the story. Suerly S7W has thier side with thier won reasons not told here

Polish,
You thoughts about moving have hit a chord with me. Been contmplating a move for about 6 months now. I am now pretty sure that a move west and north is in my future. |

So I had a laywer write them a letter. It cost me a few bucks, but they will get in in a few days time. I will keep you all updated on the progress. Until now Walther has always been so good to me. it just sucks cuz that was my favorite little gun to shoot regularly. For those that have not shot one, go try it. They are great!! I miss my baby
